When the ChompSaw and the Cricut Mug Press first arrived, my students were excited but didn't really know what the capabilities of these items were. \r\n\r\nThe impact of these resources was felt immediately during our recent Exhibition project. My students used the ChompSaw to tackle what used to be a frustrating chore: cutting thick cardboard for their display backdrops and structural models. Instead of me struggling with dull utility knives, they were able to cut clean, precise lines safely and efficiently. \r\n\r\nTo show their gratitude, the students designed and pressed custom mugs as \"Thank You\" gifts for the community experts they interviewed for their research. It taught them that design is a way to build bridges and express gratitude.\r\n\r\nA next step would be that we use the mug press to help fundraise. Students will use the Mug Press to design and create products to sell at the Kaiser's Farmers Market. They can be used to take action, like donating the money to a charity. \r\n\r\nYour support hasn't just given us \"stuff\"—it has given my students the ability to see themselves as makers, engineers, and grateful citizens. The snacks and games have also supported their energy, teamwork, and overall classroom community.\r\n\r\nOne of the biggest highlights has been the Magna-Tiles habitat kits, which tie directly into our science unit. Students love building animal habitats like oceans and forests while thinking about what animals need to survive. As they play, they naturally use new vocabulary and collaborate with peers, turning learning into a meaningful, hands-on experience.\r\n\r\nNext, students will create their own simple books using CVC and CVCe words, applying what they've learned in a creative way. The all-purpose drying rack was immediately used as soon as it was unpacked. My students were excited to place their artwork on the drying rack, which kept their watercolor masterpieces safe and smudge-free instead of scattered across every available surface area in the classroom. When it's time to focus, the privacy partitions gives my students the \"quiet space\" they need without distraction. The jumbo timer has become our favorite way to beat the clock during transition times and a great visual aid to track the time as they are doing their work. With the Place Value Teaching Kit and Magnetic Sentence Strips, I have seen a marked improvement in how students grasp multi-digit operations and complex grammar. These tools provide the visual scaffolding necessary for learners who previously struggled with mental math, allowing them to physically manipulate numbers and words to build a deeper, more concrete understanding of 10-base logic and sentence structure.\r\nBecause of these provided materials, I have been able to transition my teaching from traditional lectures to a high-functioning \"maker space\" environment. The inclusion of the Crayola Air-Dry Clay, Fuse Beads, and Safety Glasses has allowed me to integrate art and science seamlessly. I can now facilitate lessons where students apply geometry and material science to create 3D models and intricate designs, fostering a sense of professional responsibility and \"real-world\" experimentation that was previously out of reach.\r\nI am incredibly grateful to the Hawaii State Department of Education for supporting this project. The logistical upgrades, such as the Mobile Standing Desk and Stair Climbing Cart, have significantly improved our classroom flow, allowing me to provide targeted, small-group interventions anywhere in the room. Students are using the space for independent literacy: sprawling out for quiet, \"home-like\" reading time where they can truly relax with a book and sensory regulation: choosing a seating position that fits their specific sensory needs, giving them the autonomy to stay productive rather than feeling confined to a traditional desk.\r\n\r\nTo make the most of this new addition, I plan to establish \"Cozy Rituals\" by rotating small groups specifically for \"Bench Time\" to ensure everyone gets a turn to experience the collaborative benefits.","fullyFundedDate":1759609145852,"projectUrl":"project/a-comfy-corner/9777765/","projectTitle":"A Comfy Corner","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Okamoto","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7932010"},{"teacherId":7933898,"projectId":9774291,"letterContent":"The excitement in our classroom was electric when the boxes arrived! One student immediately grabbed the Scaredy Squirrel books, thrilled to see a favorite character, while others were fascinated by the variety of colorful sticker charts and mini-notebooks. \r\n\r\nWe have already put our new Scaredy Squirrel series to work through our Reading Buddies program. My students have been pairing up to explore Scaredy's hilarious emergency plans and daily routines, which has been a fantastic way to build reading confidence. The highlight of our week, however, is our Wednesday Haku meeting. We use the Orville Redenbacher popcorn as a special incentive for our student leaders to gather, brainstorm classroom improvements, and discuss their responsibilities. Sitting together with a warm snack makes these leadership sessions feel like a true \"think tank,\" and the students use their new motivational mini-notebooks to jot down their big ideas and goals for the week.\r\n\r\nYour generosity hasn't just provided us with \"stuff\"—it has provided the fuel for a vibrant, organized, and deeply engaging learning environment. Inside the daily classroom, the tools were used to make Christmas presents, such as keychains. The styrofoam cutters have to be the coolest thing that you provided my classroom. Students first just got to try them out and made swords, Christmas wreaths and characters. They used them for their projects to create props like buffalos.\r\nMy plan is to use their styrofoam cutters to design items for their exhibition displays.
