Learning to read is a crucial skill in first grade that extends beyond the classroom. It is a lifelong skill that empowers individuals to learn, grow and explore the world through books. While I do have books for my students to read, I do not have a cart or bins to organize them. The literacy cart requested would help to organize my books by levels and allow for differentiation among my students. They will be able to easily locate and choose books at their specific level which in turn will help to build their confidence as readers and foster a love for reading. The frames will be used for writing and art reflections on what they read. It will also serve to celebrate their accomplishments through the posting of photos and certificates of achievement.
