I had plenty of meltdowns in my classroom, especially in the beginning of the school year. It was a really tough start, so having this inclusive calming area with the posters, the felt board, and calming tools helped me helped my students regulate their feelings.\r\n\r\nOne part of the calming corner that really help are the emotion puzzles. Not only does it help distract them from being upset, but they also help them see which emotion they are feeling and which one they want to feel. I think it is the most successful calming corner I've had thus far. It has also taught my students to make sure that they sanitizer each time they use a tissue which is teaching them healthy habits. Additionally to help with keeping our classroom clean and to save lysol wipes, every Friday, we clean everything with the wipes, we even have a table wiper job so they can help pass out the wipes!\r\n\r\nAs far as the paper, it feels so good not having to go to the office to beg for paper. I can just go into my closet and get paper when necessary. I have been able to make plenty of exit tickets (mini worksheets to show their learning), weekly homework sheets and new centers. \r\n\r\nThank you for your donations. When I initially presented my students with the hygiene materials I received, the smiles on their faces were immediate. Just knowing that they had readily available access to items such as deodorants, feminine pads, and toothpaste provided an added layer of comfort to their days. \r\n\r\nIt is extremely important to me to have hygiene products both easily accessible as well as visible in order to decrease and disappear stigmas.
