By sending the bags home before an extended weekend break, we helped ensure that families had access to food when school-based meals and other supports might not have been available.\r\n\r\nThe dinner bags provided more than ingredients. My students absolutely love when we receive snack projects! Not only because they love a good snack, but because opening the packages is part of the excitement! I can always count on the chips and veggie snacks disappearing pretty quickly, but this past school year, my students surprised me by adding a few new favorites to their list. The Nutella breadsticks have officially earned their place as a classroom staple, right alongside the gummy bears and lollipops. We actually had so many lollipops left that we were able to pass them out on the very last day of school, giving students one more opportunity to practice sharing with their friends in other classrooms.\r\n\r\nOne of the biggest surprises was just how much my students enjoyed the Dot's Pretzels. Dare I say, they may have even rivaled the potato chips! That made me especially excited because I love seeing my elementary students willing to try something new. It feels even better when they discover they actually enjoy it. The GoGo SqueeZe applesauce was another great addition, giving students something different to choose from while still providing the quick, convenient snacks that work so well in our classroom.\r\n\r\nYour generosity does so much more than keep our snack area stocked. These projects give my students choices, introduce them to new foods, and help me find more options that they genuinely enjoy. With favorites like the pretzels and applesauce joining the rotation, I may even be able to sneak a little less \"junk\" food into our future snack hauls! By providing books that highlight activists from around the world, my students were able to see that overcoming adversity and standing up for what is right is not limited to one group of people—it is a shared human experience.\r\n\r\nThe collection exposed students to different types of injustice, from civil rights and education access to gender equality and environmental issues. These stories naturally sparked meaningful conversations during reading time. Students began asking thoughtful questions, making connections, and developing a stronger sense of empathy for people whose experiences may be different from their own.\r\n\r\nI noticed an increase in engagement during independent reading because students felt connected to the real-life stories. They weren't just reading—they were learning about courage, resilience, and the impact one person can have on the world. Many students even began to reflect on their own values and what it means to stand up for others.\r\n\r\nThis project also supported critical thinking. Students compared different forms of injustice, discussed fairness, and started to understand that change often requires persistence and collective effort. These are big concepts for second and third graders, but the books made them accessible and meaningful.\r\n\r\nOverall, this collection helped shape my classroom into a space where students not only grow as readers, but also as thoughtful, informed individuals.
