I teach at a multi-age, preschool/prekindergarten, Reggio Emilia inspired approach, special education inclusion classroom within a Head Start program. 94% of students are on free or reduced price lunch. Many of them have difficult home lives; school is a wonderful escape from that. In order to close the achievement gap that is so apparent in the District of Columbia it is imperative that students start off their academic careers with a passion for learning and loving school. I hope to insure that this happens for each of the 17 children in my class every year.
