This move and groove project will enhance the music center that we have already. The center currently consists of a few drums, bells and rhythm sticks.
The items from this project will be in the music center where children will freely have access to choose any of the materials during free choice. We sing and learn all throughout the day. The karaoke machine will not only be used in the classroom but also at the end of our studies during performances. We often team up with other pre-k classes in the school for parades, winter festivals, the 100th day of school celebration, Read Across America and much more. The karaoke would add a new level of engagement for our young learners.
Studies have shown that music can both stimulate and soothe the mind. We often play music throughout the day for transitions, resting, meditation or just at their choice time. Some of the children are very shy, yet they seem to come alive and engage more through music. The children enjoy waking up from their nap with Kidz Bop playing in the background as they sing and sway to their favorite tunes.
One of our biggest challenges has been indoor recess. The movement CDs and instruments would allow the children to move and groove and exert energy safely in a small space.
Overall, I am looking forward to the children's heightened confidence as they operate in their authentic selves.
