Thanks to your generosity, we can provide essential resources to help our students feel comfortable, confident, and cared for throughout the school day. As a school counselor, I know that having basic needs met can make a meaningful difference in a child's ability to focus, participate, and feel ready to learn. These resources will allow us to offer additional support to students who may need a snack during the school day.\r\n\r\nOur goal is to create a supportive school environment where every child knows that their needs matter and that there are caring adults ready to help. Having these supplies available will allow us to respond to students' needs with compassion and discretion, helping them feel supported without drawing unnecessary attention to their circumstances. Your kindness reminds us that even small acts of generosity can make a lasting difference in a child's school experience.\r\n\r\nThank you again for being part of our school community and helping us care for our students beyond the classroom. The \"A Little SPOT of Learning\" book set introduces important lessons on kindness, friendship, emotions, school routines, and early literacy and math skills. These books help students build emotional vocabulary, recognize feelings in themselves and others, and practice positive behaviors such as using kind words and managing big emotions. The Feelings Chart further reinforces these lessons by giving students a visual and concrete way to identify and communicate how they are feeling throughout the day.\r\n\r\nReading and learning in our space is interactive, supportive, and calming. We use the books during read-alouds, small-group discussions, and individual check-ins, often connecting the stories to real-life situations students experience at school. The Calm Strips and Time Timer have become essential tools in our calm-down corner, helping students regulate their emotions, stay focused, and understand transitions and time expectations. These resources create a structured and safe environment where students can pause, reset, and return to learning ready to succeed.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have especially benefited from these materials, particularly those who struggle with emotional regulation or expressing their feelings verbally. Students eagerly choose books from the SPOT series, reference characters when talking about their own emotions, and independently use the Calm Strips and Feelings Chart during moments of frustration or anxiety. Seeing students gain confidence, self-awareness, and coping skills has been incredibly rewarding. Thank you for providing resources that support the whole child and make a lasting difference in our students' daily lives.","fullyFundedDate":1766977043444,"projectUrl":"project/helping-students-shine-social-emotional/9736919/","projectTitle":"Helping Students Shine: Social-Emotional Learning Tools for Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Figueroa","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9741683_orig.jpg?crop=1149,1149,x56,y611&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1791817274652","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9741683"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_80500","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":261,"numTeachers":19,"percentFrplEligible":57,"percentAsian":15,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":4,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":68,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":1,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.9,"schoolId":80500,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hoover Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hoover Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-jersey/bergenfield-school-district/hoover-elementary-school/80500"}
