The adjustable heights allow students of all ages and skill levels to participate, practice, and experience success. We are using the hoops to teach basketball fundamentals, including dribbling, passing, shooting, and teamwork. One of the most rewarding moments has been watching students who were once hesitant to shoot become excited and confident as they successfully make baskets!\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new hoops, their excitement was contagious! They couldn't wait to get their hands on the basketballs and start shooting. The opportunity to have hoops that could be adjusted to their height made the experience even more exciting. Seeing their enthusiasm reminded us how important it is to provide students with equipment that allows everyone to participate and feel successful.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue developing our basketball skills through fun shooting challenges, partner activities, dribbling games, and small-group competitions. This week, students are using water droppers, lemon squeezers, and sponges to practice pinching, squeezing, and strengthening the small muscles in their hands. Last week, we turned the table into a cutting bin filled with scrap paper of different thicknesses and textures. The children practiced using scissors while exploring how different types of paper felt and cut. The new smocks help keep students comfortable and ready to explore, even when activities get messy!\r\n\r\nWe look forward to using the sensory table with sand and other sensory materials in the coming months. The initial wave of curiosity completely transformed the energy in the room to pure excitement for hands-on learning.\r\nThese STEAM and makerspace activities will be available for students to use all year long in the library.
