We now have additional and flexible seating and small floor tables so that students have choice and autonomy in where they do their work in the classroom. Giving them these choices has empowered my young students, aged 5-7 years, to reflect on how they concentrate best and to choose the tools to help them. Some students prefer to sit at a table and work well with other students. Some students need to work alone and in a quiet corner of the classroom utilizing the small floor tables. The comfortable cushions have made this option very enticing. \r\n Other materials that I purchased with this grant include noise reduction headphones. My students love using these to help them focus and having several available for all students has taken the stigma away for students who previously used them as an ADHD support. In addition the small visual timer is very helpful for my students just learning how to manage their time. It helps them to stay on task until their work is complete. I find these tools have minimized distractions for my young learners. \r\n Thank you so much!","fullyFundedDate":1760856620726,"projectUrl":"project/focusing-on-literacy/9839270/","projectTitle":"Focusing on Literacy!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Megan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10316323_orig.jpg?crop=2320,2320,x0,y487&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760665716874","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10316323"},{"teacherId":10324488,"projectId":9848638,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity and thoughtfulness in gifting new books to my students! Book club is one of their favorite times of the week. They get to engage in conversation and listen and learn from one another. I have enjoyed hearing the questions they create about the readings and the thoughts of others as they answer. My students have various jobs, looking for vocabulary, making connections, analyzing characters, and so on. This gift gives them a chance to experience new worlds. \r\n\r\nAs a teacher of a 4/5/6th grade mixed classroom, we have our students for three years. One of the biggest obstacles we face is finding books for groups that have shifted through the years without having students reread a book (although we encourage it in everyday life!). Receiving new books gives us a chance to bring new choices into book club. This brings new excitement, curiosity, and variety into the mix. Thank you, again, from myself and the class of Room 305. The floor chairs have transformed our reading and small-group spaces into inviting areas where students can focus and collaborate more comfortably. Calculators have enhanced math-literacy integration activities, supporting students as they develop problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.\r\n\r\nThe addition of fidget toys has been especially impactful for students who benefit from sensory support; helping them stay calm, focused, and ready to learn. Together, these resources have strengthened student engagement, improved reading stamina, and increased overall participation in literacy activities.\r\n\r\nWe are deeply grateful for this contribution, which continues to make a lasting difference in our students' academic growth and confidence.","fullyFundedDate":1760823427395,"projectUrl":"project/every-word-counts-supporting-special-re/9836913/","projectTitle":"Every Word Counts: Supporting Special Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Reasons","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10315399_orig.jpg?crop=1169,1170,x0,y857&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760624190798","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10315399"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_106941","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":428,"numTeachers":46,"percentFrplEligible":11,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":18,"percentWhite":70,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"9.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":77.4,"schoolId":106941,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about First State Montessori Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"First State Montessori Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/delaware/delaware-department-of-education/first-state-montessori-academy/106941"}
