For children with sensory processing delays, entering a classroom environment can sometimes feel overwhelming. Having a dedicated, tactile space designed specifically to meet their sensory needs changed our daily routine immediately.\r\nWe use the water table daily during our sensory integration and center time. It gives my students a safe, therapeutic space to splash, pour, scoop, and explore temperature and movement at their own pace. Recently, we worked on a floating and sinking activity where students experimented with different objects in the water. I watched a student who normally struggles with fine motor control and vocal communication focus intently for twenty minutes, joyfully scooping water and using new vocabulary words to describe what was floating. Moments like that demonstrate how powerful hands-on, multi-sensory tools are for bridging cognitive and physical development.\r\nMoving forward, our next steps involve integrating basic science and math concepts directly into our water play. We will be using measuring cups to introduce volume estimation and experimenting with water wheels to explore cause-and-effect concepts. Your generosity provided more than just a classroom toy; you provided a gateway to calm, focus, and accessible learning for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1778279292049,"projectUrl":"project/making-waves-with-sensory-play/10208230/","projectTitle":"Making Waves with Sensory Play!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Brill","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5357315_orig.jpg?crop=2320,2320,x0,y139&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1634612719089","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/e-brill2018"},{"teacherId":6554222,"projectId":10579317,"letterContent":"My students are using the new books during independent reading, partner reading, and small-group literacy activities. The new books have brought fresh excitement to our classroom library and have given students more opportunities to find stories and topics that interest them. During one independent reading time, I watched several students excitedly recommend books to one another and talk about what they were reading. Seeing students become excited about choosing a book and sharing their reading with classmates has been a wonderful reminder of the power of having engaging books readily available.\r\n \r\nMy students were thrilled when they saw the new books! They immediately gathered around the bookshelves, picked up books, looked through the covers, and started talking about which ones they wanted to read first. Some students were especially excited to see books featuring topics and characters that interested them. Their enthusiasm made the classroom feel even more like a community of readers. It was wonderful to see students who may not always choose to read become curious and eager to explore a new book.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building a strong reading community through daily independent reading and book discussions. Students will use the new books to practice identifying main ideas, making inferences, finding text evidence, and making connections to what they read. We will also share book recommendations with classmates and encourage students to explore different genres and topics. My hope is that these new books will not only support our reading standards but also help every student discover books that make them excited to read.","fullyFundedDate":1788579896968,"projectUrl":"project/scoop-into-reading-fostering-reading-st/10579317/","projectTitle":"Scoop Into Reading: Fostering Reading Stamina in Third Grade","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Whitmore","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6554222_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1769094177530","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6554222"},{"teacherId":6554222,"projectId":7998722,"letterContent":"My students are using the new resources during our classroom centers to practice important skills in a fun, hands-on way. During a recent classroom center activity, I noticed students moving to different seating options while working with partners and independently. They were able to make choices that helped them stay engaged and focused on their learning. It has been wonderful to see students becoming more aware of what helps them learn best.\r\n My students were incredibly excited when they first saw the flexible seating! They immediately wanted to try the different options and were excited to have a choice in where they could work. Their excitement quickly turned into meaningful conversations about which seating choices helped them concentrate and do their best work. For my students, having a choice made them feel that their classroom was truly their space and that their individual learning needs mattered.\r\n Our next steps are to continue using the flexible seating while we work through our upcoming reading, writing, math, and center activities. Students will practice making responsible choices about where they learn best while continuing to build independence and self-management skills. I will continue teaching students how to use the seating appropriately and reflect on whether their choice is helping them stay focused and productive.
