Even though I brought years of experience as a specialist to my new gen ed classroom, I couldn't have prepared it properly for them without your support. The materials that you funded have been (and continue to be) critical to student learning. Here are some highlights:\r\n- We use the colorful Lakeshore rug more than anything else in the classroom. Students circle up on it first thing in the morning for our Strong Start, where they greet, share, and do community building activities together. When something happens that we need to discuss as a class community, we circle up on the rug. And, of course, students sit on it throughout the day for math, reading, and other instructional time. We use the rug for \"turn and talks,\" read alouds, and as workspace for students who need more support during independent work time. (The clipboards you funded are also super helpful for this, and the kids LOVE them. We also used them on our trip to the school garden to observe flowering plants. The kids felt like real scientists sketching and labeling what they observed.) I'm grateful for this rug on a daily basis - for the bright colors that welcome students to the space but also for the structure it gives their day. Everyone has a clearly delineated carpet spot, and I can use the colored rows to differentiate everything from oral practice during phonics to dismissal to their seats. \r\n- The students may use the rug most, but I spend a fair amount of my time going up and down the ladder. As you can see from the pictures, much of our classroom wall space is beyond my reach. Thanks to the ladder I've been able to hang anchor charts, staple the data wall, and post resources all around the room - from high frequency words and math vocabulary to our reading rope and writing sentence starters, to name a few.\r\n- Many of the materials you helped purchase for our class have already been used in class while a few others are waiting for their time to shine. The hundreds chart is such a helpful resource during math. We use the dry erase markers during math, spelling/phonics, and small group. The money made its debut this week as we use dollars to demonstrate the concept of place value.\r\n\r\nWhile so many things outside of school are beyond my control, I can be confident that, because of your support, my students have what they need in our classroom. Thank you again so much for your generosity to our class community.","fullyFundedDate":1752928645855,"projectUrl":"project/get-set-for-second-grade/9421289/","projectTitle":"Get set for Second Grade!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Dodson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10010003_orig.png?crop=694,694,x99,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1750439147644","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10010003"},{"teacherId":7256370,"projectId":9072931,"letterContent":"Thank you for this wonderful easel. Since words can't describe the joy of this project, I hope the pictures I shared will. \r\n\r\nIn the spring, my reading intervention students spent two full weeks learning the process of recording and sharing their audiobooks, learning a new technology while learning how to read with fluency, passion, and intonation. They also learned how to project into sound equipment, how to sit and read aloud to students, and how to engage PreK students in a read aloud with questions and comments. They also asked for tips on managing the PreK students in the listening center! So often, these 2nd and 3rd grade reading intervention students had not seen themselves as readers nor leaders. In this project, they were both. \r\n\r\nMy students also LOVED using the chameleon readers; it is a genius technology. Each individual page receives a small green sticker, and then my students recorded that specific page paired with the recorder. So, PreK students in the listening center have a highly tailored experience -- and can listen to the same page over and over if they wish! My 2nd and 3rd graders loved learning the technology, and wanted to use the tech for everything after this project. \r\n\r\nWe plan to invite more and more 2nd and 3rd graders to be part of the listening center, as a celebration once their reading has achieved a certain level of fluency.
