Many of our students do not have access to games or art supplies at home, so receiving items like Sorry, Connect Four, and their own box of Crayola colored pencils was incredibly special. Indoor recess has been transformed into a time where students can build social skills, practice teamwork, and simply enjoy being kids in a safe and engaging environment. Having structured, fun options has helped reduce conflicts and created a more positive classroom atmosphere.\r\n\r\nIn addition, being able to provide each student with a snack and their own set of supplies helped meet both their physical and emotional needs. For some students, a snack during the day makes a big difference in their focus and energy levels. The excitement on their faces when they received these items was unforgettable—they felt valued, supported, and cared for. This project not only enhanced their daily school experience but also reinforced that their classroom is a place where they are seen and appreciated.","fullyFundedDate":1773848314630,"projectUrl":"project/colorful-minds-and-joyful-play-for-indoo/9925797/","projectTitle":"Colorful Minds and Joyful Play for Indoor Recess","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Shannon Baxter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2145419_orig.jpg?crop=1241,1241,x162,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1602080949238","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2145419"},{"teacherId":2145440,"projectId":9931427,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous donation towards our calming corner. My second grade classroom works hard to build strong academic skill but also social-emotional skills. Young children are in need of learning coping skills when their emotions get the best of them. Many of my students benefit from having a safe, quiet space where they can take a break, regulate emotions, and be able to calm themselves down so they can get back to learning. My calming corner was in need of some updated items for my students. They have used the weighted sloth and pillow knot to help them calm down when they are frustrated and can't get their emotions under control. The colored pencils gives them an opportunity to color which helps them calm down, too. All my students love the sand and water frame. It is mesmerizing and relaxes my students. I was able to use the textured infinity stickers and breathe strips in their desks so they can feel them at their seat. They said the texture helps them calm down and practice their breathing techniques. I am so grateful for all the supplies for our calming corner. One moment that truly stood out for me was when one student, who after receiving a new coat showed so much gratitude for having a new warm coat for the winter. I wish you all could have shared that experience in person as I did because you made that moment possible through your donation. \r\nWhen the coats and gloves were first distributed, the reaction was a mix of excitement and relief. Students were smiling, trying on their coats, and comparing gloves with their peers. More importantly, there was a noticeable boost in confidence because students felt cared for and supported. This has strengthened our school community, creating an environment where students are more open to collaboration and engagement. The book bins, name tags, book tape, magnets, and turn-in bins have helped us create a more structured and student-centered environment where everyone knows exactly where materials belong. One moment that stood out was during our reading block—students were able to quickly grab their book bins, find their independent reading books, and transition smoothly into learning without confusion or lost time. It may seem simple, but that level of organization has truly maximized our instructional minutes.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, they were so excited to help set everything up. They loved seeing their own name tags on their bins and immediately took ownership of keeping their spaces neat and organized. There was a sense of pride that filled the room, and students kept saying how our classroom felt \"official\" and \"like a real library.\" It created instant buy-in and responsibility.\r\n\r\nWe've already begun using these materials in a classroom project focused on building independence and accountability. Students are learning how to manage their own supplies, properly store books, and use the turn-in bins to submit assignments efficiently. We've even incorporated mini-lessons on organization skills and why they matter, connecting it to real-life responsibilities.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, students will continue developing these habits as we begin a research-based reading and writing project. They will use their book bins to store texts and resources, the magnets for tracking progress on group boards, and the turn-in bins to manage drafts and final copies of their work. These materials are helping us build a classroom where students are organized, confident, and ready to take ownership of their learning—and we are so grateful for the support that made this possible.","fullyFundedDate":1749251558331,"projectUrl":"project/lets-get-organized/9371705/","projectTitle":"Let's Get Organized","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McCarthy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8428396_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1652401965656","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8428396"},{"teacherId":8428396,"projectId":8915480,"letterContent":"When our mini classroom fridge arrived, it quickly became more than just a new item in the room—it became a meaningful part of our daily routine. We use it to store student snacks, drinks, and occasional rewards, which has helped create a more comfortable and focused learning environment. One specific moment that stood out was during a long math small group rotation. Instead of students becoming distracted or asking to leave the room, they were able to quickly grab a cold water or snack during a transition and return ready to learn. That small shift helped us maintain momentum and maximize our instructional time.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the fridge, they were beyond excited. There were lots of smiles, questions, and even a few \"This is so cool!\" comments. For many of them, it felt like a special addition that made our classroom feel more welcoming and cared for. It also sparked conversations about responsibility, as we worked together to set expectations for keeping the fridge organized and respectful for everyone.\r\n\r\nThanks to this resource, we are also incorporating more real-world learning experiences. For example, students are beginning a math-based project where they will track snack inventory, calculate costs, and practice budgeting skills. They'll use data to make decisions about what items to \"restock\" and how to manage limited resources—connecting math concepts to everyday life in a meaningful way.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we plan to build on this by integrating more hands-on, real-world problem-solving tasks that tie into our math curriculum. The fridge has helped us create a space where students feel supported, energized, and ready to learn—and that impact is something we are incredibly grateful for.","fullyFundedDate":1730911406345,"projectUrl":"project/food-saver/8915480/","projectTitle":"Food Saver","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McCarthy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8428396_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1652401965656","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8428396"},{"teacherId":8428396,"projectId":9404537,"letterContent":"Our new recess equipment has completely transformed the way my students experience their break time and return to learning. One moment that really stood out was watching a group of students organize their own kickball game—assigning teams, creating rules, and resolving disagreements independently. It was such a powerful example of teamwork, communication, and problem-solving in action.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new equipment, their excitement was immediate and contagious. There were cheers, big smiles, and lots of eager questions about when they could start using everything. For many of them, it made recess feel more inclusive and engaging, since there are now options that appeal to different interests and abilities.\r\n\r\nSince receiving these materials, we've also been able to connect recess to our classroom learning in meaningful ways. Students are currently working on a project where they reflect on teamwork, sportsmanship, and goal-setting. They write about their experiences during recess, analyze how they handle challenges, and set personal goals for improving cooperation and leadership skills.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we plan to continue building on these social-emotional and collaborative skills by incorporating more structured group challenges and reflection activities.
