My students are seventh graders, beginning the transition to high school skills. We do a great deal of writing within our language arts curriculum. Students are working on skills such as writing narratives, informative essays, and arguments. Many of our students come from lower income households. While we may start the year with appropriate supplies, as the weeks pass, many students come into my classroom without the proper basic materials, including writing instruments.
