My students are loving all the printing options they have with our new filament colors. Without your donation, this definitely wouldn't have been possible!\r\n\r\nMy 7th and 8th graders use the Tinkercad app to create a variety of things from mini planters and keychains to mini-figures and game pieces (we try to keep them small because big items take FOREVER to print!) This semester's students created some truly amazing things.\r\n\r\nThey have learned a lot about spatial reasoning as they create from all three dimensions. Before they can print, they have to look at an object from every single angle to be sure that all the parts are connected. Sometimes it looks great from one angle but then you realize when you look at it from another angle that it's not even touching! Because of your generosity, we were able to provide our students with brand-new novels like The Hunger Games and Percy Jackson among others. Overall, we were able to give away 63 books. They were so excited to keep as their own.\r\n\r\nWe used these books as weekly rewards for students with perfect attendance. Each Friday during lunch, we drew four names from those who had been present every day that week. Students loved the opportunity to have a fresh start each week, knowing they could earn another chance at a book even if they had missed a day earlier in the month. \r\n\r\nOur school-wide goal this year was to reach 95% attendance, and thanks to your support, we met that goal in April and May! These book giveaways were a small but meaningful piece of a larger effort, and they truly made a difference. At Deer Creek, we believe that when students are in our building, they are learning. After a hectic spring season of testing, the students appreciated the opportunity to tap into their creativity. We were able to put the Chromebooks away for a few days. Instead of typing, students were able to pick some of their favorite natural wonders around the world - - - at the most simplistic level. Some of their favorites were ocean animals, the perfect sunsets, flowers blowing in the wind, and gorgeous mountain views. After they painted their paintings, then they started the writing process. They brainstormed details that they highlighted in their painting and drafted strikingly beautiful haiku poems. On numerous occasions, I heard students share how relaxing this activity was. Many were impressed with their results and I was absolutely blown away with how gorgeous their paintings and poems turned out. We lined the Avenger hall with their masterpieces and there was great pride as they showcased their projects with others. \r\n\r\nThank you for allowing this year's students the opportunity to participate in this activity. We will do it in the spring, so pictures from last year's project will be shared. I can't wait until the spring to see what this year's students create.
