As English Language Learners, our students thrive when they feel a connection to their own language and culture. This small library of bilingual books will give them a sense of support as they internalize a new language. It is the wish of every teacher that our students learn to love reading, no matter the language. With these books, our students will have familiar, interesting, and fun texts that they can read and understand right at their fingertips. The best way to increase reading ability is to read often, and to feel connected and engaged with the text. Our students all participate in independent reading time in their own classrooms. They have allotted time to sit with a collection of books that they chose on their own to read independently. They already show such great interest in reading on their own. Having access to the texts provided in this small library of books will further enrich their reading experiences.
