My role is to assist students in their post-secondary journey by providing experiences to help students prepare for life after high school in enrollment, enlistment, or employment. I was delighted that my Donors Choose Project: Empower Students Through the Power of Color was fully funded through your generous donations! \r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, students in grades 9-12 (roughly 1200) have benefited from seeing visuals for displays: photographs, fliers, and additional graphics in engaging colors since I received the color printer and laminating machine. One of our projects involved a popcorn theme as we worked to recruit underclassmen to apply for and join the Early College Program at Crispus Attucks High School and it was incredibly effective and engaging to be able to print and laminate various visuals (popcorn buckets, popcorn kernels, and other types of visuals to be displayed in several high traffic areas: the cafeteria, the main window of the Future Center, and outside of specific classrooms with the targeted student population. \r\n\r\nHaving access to a color printer and laminating machine both provide not only higher levels of engagement for student interaction and education, but provide greater longevity to the materials we design and utilize. Again, on behalf of my students, staff, and other stakeholders in our school, we thank you for supporting our project and look forward to continued success in using both items.","fullyFundedDate":1769177502882,"projectUrl":"project/empower-students-through-the-power-of-co/9867873/","projectTitle":"Empower Students Through the Power of Color!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Williamson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10337494"},{"teacherId":8934158,"projectId":10024582,"letterContent":"We are so appreciative of your generous donation. The moment they opened the boxes and saw the fresh boards, weighted pieces, and instructional guides, their faces lit up. Many of them immediately wanted to set up matches, while others carefully examined the pieces and asked questions about strategy. It created an instant buzz of curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the room.\r\nWe began using the materials right away during our after-school chess club meetings. One specific project we launched was a \"Strategy in Action\" challenge. Students were paired into teams and asked to study classic openings, then practice and analyze their games. They recorded their moves, reflected on mistakes, and discussed alternative strategies. The new boards allowed multiple games to run simultaneously, giving every student hands-on time rather than waiting for a turn. This increased engagement and participation significantly.\r\n\r\nAcademically, these materials have strengthened critical thinking, problem-solving, and patience. Students are learning to plan ahead, anticipate consequences, and adapt their strategies—skills that directly support math reasoning and reading comprehension. They are also developing perseverance and sportsmanship.\r\n\r\nNext, students will begin a mini-tournament where they apply what they've learned about openings, middle-game tactics, and endgame strategies. They'll also practice peer coaching, helping one another analyze moves and grow together.\r\n\r\nHaving a company like Panda support our students means so much. It shows our students that their interests matter and that their community believes in their potential. Your generosity has created opportunities for growth, confidence, and meaningful learning experiences that will stay with them far beyond the chessboard.","fullyFundedDate":1769177503753,"projectUrl":"project/chess-club/10012044/","projectTitle":"Chess Club","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Christenberry","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5828680_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1771987033521","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-christenberry"},{"teacherId":10087790,"projectId":9488275,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous donations to the CCMA class at Crispus Attucks High School. Without you, I would not be able to provide my students with the education and rigor they deserve. My students are full of potential, but many come to school without the materials, structure, or consistency they need to thrive. These new resources are helping me create routines inside my classroom that support focus and organization. Overall, you have helped build my students' confidence from the first moment they walk into the classroom.\r\n\r\nOne change that has been the most impactful is how students engage with their learning. Last year, as a first-year teacher, I was still learning my own systems. I tried using binders toward the end of the year, but I learned they did not fully meet my students' needs. The composition notebooks you have donated have made a powerful impact not only on me, but also on my students. For those who were unable to purchase notebooks on their own, having one provided for them has been incredibly meaningful. Students now have a consistent place to take notes, organize examples, and show their mathematical thinking. Several students have shared how appreciative they are to finally have their own notebook they can rely on every day.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, our classroom feels more structured and ready for learning. The availability of pencils ensures that every student can participate fully without interruptions like, \"Do you have a pencil?\" The index cards are being used for quick checks for understanding and daily points through stamps, which help boost student confidence. Together, these tools allow students to focus on growing their skills instead of worrying about what they're missing.
