In this new environment of learning, the expectations I hold myself to as a teacher haven't changed. Whether it's walking into my classroom's 4 walls or sitting in front of my computer screen to teach my class, the outcome is still the same, provide my students with the absolute best instruction I can provide. A daily lesson in my math class ranges from hands-on activities done independently or in groups, to the sharing of ideas with classmates. While these things are definitely possible in both an online and classroom setting, it is the seamless transition that happens in a classroom.
Contrary to in person instruction, an online setting doesn't afford me the same opportunity to make multiple methods of teaching possible. Math notes are essential part of my students' education and experience in math. It's also a skill that is essential in college. While teaching online with just a computer, it makes note-taking with equations and formulas extremely time consuming, if not almost impossible to manage in the short time I have online. Having a document camera would afford me the opportunity to provide my students that same seamless transition with minimal classroom disruption.
