Using the tufting kits and materials funded through DonorsChoose, students designed and created their own custom rugs from concept to completion. Many students entered the class with little to no experience in fiber arts, yet quickly embraced the challenge of learning new tools and techniques. One of my favorite moments was hearing students proudly exclaim, \"I made this!\" as they completed their projects and shared them with peers and staff. Their excitement was contagious, and several students immediately began asking when they could make another rug.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were amazed that they would have access to professional-quality equipment and supplies. The colorful yarn selection sparked creativity, and students eagerly began brainstorming designs that reflected their personalities, interests, and cultures. They explored how handmade goods are priced, marketed, and sold, helping them see the connection between creativity and real-world opportunities.","fullyFundedDate":1778126411793,"projectUrl":"project/from-rugs-to-revenue-teaching-creative/10126041/","projectTitle":"From Rugs to Revenue: Teaching Creative Entrepreneurship Through Rug Tufting","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Murphy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9195335_orig.jpg?crop=481,481,x0,y76&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1692163021329","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/sheree-murphy"},{"teacherId":8914885,"projectId":10027718,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for funding our maker squad! The candy leis were a major success - all of the candy was gone! Staff wrote notes and words of advice for students that were handed out in giftbags. Each attendee got a notebook for their friends and staff members to sign. We all enjoyed soft drinks, pizza, and a purple ube-flavored cake from a local Black-owned bakery. \r\n\r\nWe had a short ceremony where each graduate came up to the front to receive a purple cord and butterfly pin to wear with their graduation regalia.
