The DNA Ancestry search breaks down students' specific ethnicity based on DNA which is collected through a mouth swab. The DNA Ancestry search does not look into paternity or family history. It will simply tell the countries they originated from. The breakdown does more than tell students the different ethnic groups they are, as it also breaks down the countries their ancestors are from. The goal is for students to learn more about themselves and begin researching the different countries in Africa and the world that they are connected to. We will be doing a fundraiser for 8 weeks to fund the effort, and we will also do different projects around the subject. We will have a family night with parents/guardians in order to answer questions and/or talk about this subject as a community. This is a whole family project! This is not required, however, is an opportunity for students if parents consent. Our admin, teachers and staff have worked hard to continually build our Black Student and Parent community on campus. This family based project will not only educate parents and students but continue building community for our BSU families.
