Our students are starved for great literature that reflects their beautiful culture and community experiences. By ordering class reading sets of Devil's Highway and Always Running, my 8th and 9th grade curriculum will be enhanced to reflect the contemporary struggles that young Latinos face in America. The class sets will prompt discussions about the obstacles that young urban teens face and will allow students reflect on their lives and the path forward. We frequently talk about engaging all our students, but we rarely give them the right materials to do so. These two class sets are wonderful additions and will engage our diverse learners.
