Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a diverse, inner-city elementary school where all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Coming from poverty, many of our students struggle academically. Many have never even been to a public library or even have books to read at home. We just recently had a book fair, but many of the students did not have money to buy books, however, they love to read books.

I want to fill our library with books that students want to read and that will help them grow as readers!

My Project

Our school library does not have a budget to buy new books. Our library is stocked through community book donations. However, they are not always a good fit for beginning or emergent readers.

Our kindergarten and first grade students need some new leveled readers!

Our primary students are ready to put their skills to work and enjoy reading some books on their own. We need books that our kindergarten, first, and second grade students can enjoy, but books that will also reinforce the reading skills they are working on in class!

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
