My Students

I am the special education teacher at a school in Worcester. I currently have 30 students on my caseload with a variety of learning disabilities from grades kindergarten to third. My students require specialized instruction in order to make effective progress in school. Not all students learn in the same way and it is my job as their teacher to figure out what and how they learn in order to make them independent learners. I strive as a teacher to learn and become a better teacher each year. I give it my all to help ALL my students get the best education and have fun while doing it.

My school is a high-poverty school in Worcester's inner city, where most students receive free lunch.

Many of my students battle homelessness, extreme poverty, and challenging home situations. Despite the challenges my students face, they enter my classroom to find comfort, safety, and fun! We strive as a school family to make learning a fun, rewarding experience and create a safe and comfortable environment.

My Project

This Lively Letters kit will make a tremendous impact on my special education students. It is a researched based program to help ensure students can develop their phonemic awareness prior to developing their phonics skills. I have many students struggling to learn their letters and develop their pre-reading skills to become independent readers. Some of my students have a learning disability and I want to be able to provide them with all the tools and strategies possible to help them be independent learners.

Lively Letters brings life to the letters that often times seem abstract to our students with disabilities.

These letters have a story, a face, and are colorful to help students develop images in their right brains.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
