The absolute highlight for my students, however, was seeing the brand-new sensory items added to our classroom sensory cart.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the room was buzzing with pure joy and curiosity. The students gathered around the boxes, and their eyes completely lit up as we unboxed the new tools. We have seamlessly integrated these tools directly into our academic groups, and it has been amazing to watch the kids take ownership of their own learning needs. A truly special milestone we reached recently is that the students are learning they can independently get up and use a sensory item without asking, as long as it is a \"good fit\" tool that helps them focus and doesn't distract themselves or their peers.\r\n\r\nSeeing a student quietly recognize they need a tool to focus, walk over to the cart during a reading or math group, and return to their seat ready to learn—all without interrupting the lesson—has been incredibly powerful. Moving forward, our next steps are to keep strengthening these self-regulation habits during our core academic subjects, helping the students identify exactly which tools work best for different types of tasks. It's a cozy space where students can take a break, use the fidgets, explore the sensory items, and practice self-regulation.\r\n\r\nThe kids absolutely love having these choices available. The timers are helping them manage breaks, and the fidgets and sensory items are giving them healthy ways to ease anxiety and regain focus.
