It's fun to see students' unique creativity come to life on paper with the right materials. \r\nIt has been such a relief to my personal wallet to have a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card on file so that when I need a quick supplement to my teaching, it is available. We have been busily making clothespin snowmen over that last week. We made yarn scarves; many of the students twisted two or three colors of yarn together or braided the yarn pieces together to make a more colorful scarf. We made a total of 80 snowmen for our Autism Support classes and for each of our own trees. Next we will write elf letters to each student in the ASC classes; we've already selected our elf names!\r\nThe students have really enjoyed using the new indoor recess supplies. Towers of magnetic blocks have been made and many games of cornhole and velcro ball have been played on rainy (and soon to be snowy) afternoons. We are looking forward to creating landscapes with our chalk pastels as we learn about Westward Expansion in history and weathering and erosion during our science lessons. My students were very excited to be working with these new materials. \r\n\r\nWith the pocket chart, it has helped to have a designated area where they turn in assignments and can easily glance to see if it's turned in or not. It helps me as the teacher in case my students forget their name. Since the paper is in a certain pocket assigned to a specific student, I can quickly figure out whose it is. \r\n\r\nWith the white boards and clear plastic protector sleeves, it has been nice to change it up in our lessons by using something other than paper pencil. The sleeves make it nice so we can reuse pages over and over to save on the number of copies made.\r\n\r\nThe headphones are one of our favorite items! Before we had them, the classroom got a bit noisy at times since students would be in different parts of the lesson, but now that we are listening individually through headphones, it is a much quieter, calmer environment, which has been much better for learning!\r\n\r\nThanks again for the items mentioned above as well as the others from my project. Wobble stools were added to the back rectangular table for large group work. Either can be moved to their individual desks to replace students' hard chairs. The butterfly chairs have been popular to use than balancing a clipboard, and more comfortable too! \r\n\r\nI removed the legs off of a second rectangular table and placed the floor pads around it so students can comfortably work on their Chromebooks, circle up for a Readers' Theatre or watch books or educational movies on the projector screen while sitting on the floor. \r\n\r\nI have even noticed my students combine the flexible seating in some creative ways by putting the foam cushions on their chairs or using them with the butterfly desks. \r\n\r\nThey have been able to quickly and easily pair up, work in small groups, or in discussions as a whole group. Sometimes they even work alone and move away from others if they choose. I love the collaboration and teamwork! \r\n\r\nThey love to lean, lounge, rock, wobble or stand, and in general they're more free with their movements. Allowing my students to choose where they sit empowers them to think about how they learn best and urges them to be more strategic with their choices.\r\n\r\nI use LED lights around my whiteboard to let the class know when it's time to move from their \"home base\" to seat choice. They are happier, more confident and are more motivated to work. \r\n\r\nI've also been able to use it for classroom management. Students stay on task so they don't lose their flexible seating privilege. \r\n\r\nThe ball chairs and wobble stools have allowed my students with autism or ADHD these students to move in ways that help regulate their sensory input. I have noticed improved focus and attention by providing a controlled outlet for their sensory needs.\r\n\r\nThe students freely peruse and instantly notice when I change out the books on the book rack to go with the season, holiday or unit we are currently studying. \r\n\r\nThank you Donors Choose for making our classroom a beneficial and motivational, not to mention fun, learning environment!","fullyFundedDate":1728763161961,"projectUrl":"project/flexible-seating-for-a-first-year-teache/8550499/","projectTitle":"Flexible Seating for a First-Year Teacher and Her Flexible Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Moes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9624642_orig.jpg?crop=1548,1548,x260,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723427110971","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9624642"},{"teacherId":3179726,"projectId":8699663,"letterContent":"I am incredibly grateful for your generous donation to our classroom.
