I have found that when my students are given the opportunity to challenge their minds and find success it carries over to other areas of learning. Students need time to refresh between all of their learning. We work hard in class. I want their time in between learning to also be productive. When I give my students "down time" I still want their minds to be learning. I have loved including chess tournaments as part of our learning experience. The students use critical thinking skills as they challenge themselves and their opponents in chess. They also learn to think out of the box and see things from a different perspective I like exposing my students to other ways of learning and seeing new ideas in a visual way. Both of the digital media disks I have chosen are excellent. They help students to understands parts of math and science that are in our core. They can see and understand these concepts visually and understand the "why" of them. My students enjoy learning about gravity and gain greater understanding when viewing through the concept of black holes. Both of these DVD's encourage deep conversations about the concepts they cover. Watching segments of these DVD's at a time helps me to teach core standards using the visual aids of black holes and Da Vinci's drawings. They love these!
