While many of us use technology at home, seeing students apply it to real scientific inquiry is something truly special. These cameras let students visualize heat transfer, energy loss, insulation, and temperature differences—concepts that are normally invisible and often difficult for young learners to grasp. By turning abstract ideas into colorful, concrete images, the cameras help students build deeper understanding and stronger connections to our science curriculum.\r\n\r\nWhat excites them most is the feeling of being real scientists. The moment they see everyday objects \"light up\" in thermal colors, their curiosity explodes. They've investigated everything from which materials keep their lunches warm to how their handprints fade from different surfaces. The ability to instantly test their predictions and capture evidence has made lessons more engaging and has sparked countless questions and experiments. The cameras have transformed our classroom into a mini-lab where exploration feels both playful and purposeful.\r\n\r\nA few students have especially blossomed with this new technology. One student who typically shies away from group work has become our resident \"thermal expert,\" enthusiastically helping others interpret heat signatures and troubleshoot the devices. Another student, who struggles with traditional note-taking, now uses thermal photos to document learning and explain scientific concepts more confidently than ever before. Seeing these students light up—just like their thermal images—has been one of the most rewarding outcomes of this project. Thank you for making these moments possible.","fullyFundedDate":1755708073923,"projectUrl":"project/heating-it-up-in-6th-grade/9596510/","projectTitle":"Heating It Up In 6th Grade!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wright","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9043383_orig.png?crop=204,204,x6,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755197123810","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9043383"},{"teacherId":1960412,"projectId":9575284,"letterContent":"Students with past lessons were able to use normal thermometers for testing thermal levels in liquids. This has been fine to do, but has been limited on the experiments and things students have been able to test. With the thermometer guns they are able to test things like thermal levels of 3D printers in our room, ice cubes, walls outside at different times of day, and temperatures of things like desk surfaces.\r\n\r\nWhen students have been able to use the thermometer guns, they have been excited to test more things. They are excited to test the temperature of their desk, place their hand on the same area and see how thermal energy from their hand transferred to the desk. What they find more incredible is how waiting a few minutes the temperature of the desk goes back to being equal in all areas.\r\n\r\nThank you again for funding our project.","fullyFundedDate":1755702849520,"projectUrl":"project/the-heat-is-on/9575284/","projectTitle":"The Heat is On","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Redford","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1960412_orig.jpg?crop=1774,1774,x90,y504&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1601512266862","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1960412"},{"teacherId":10179617,"projectId":9600936,"letterContent":"The decodable readers have been a wonderful resource to help my students practice decoding multisyllabic words using books that are entertaining. It is doing wonders for my students. These decodable readers are not only engaging but they can be tailored to any skill I need to teach or reteach my students. \r\n\r\nAs an intervention, I am using these creative, fun, and highly engrossing stories to reteach what students are already learning in whole group instruction. In small group settings we are finding character traits, theme, cause-and-effect, comparing and contrasting, breaking down words, using syllabication, transition words, sequencing, summarizing, and making inferences. \r\n\r\nOur data already shows it is making a difference! Your support has allowed us to bring an incredible new technology into our classroom, fundamentally changing the way we explore science. Thanks to you, our students are now able to engage in dynamic, hands-on thermal heat experiments and truly experience the power of collaborative learning in a way that was never before possible. The energy and engagement in the classroom have been transformed by this new opportunity for hands-on discovery.\r\n\r\nThe most rewarding part of having this new resource is seeing the \"light bulb\" moments spark across the room as students work together to solve problems. There is a palpable excitement as they share ideas and build on each other's knowledge. It has been especially transformative for some of my students who previously struggled to find their voice. This technology has given them a powerful new way to demonstrate what they know, allowing them to confidently share their insights with their peers in a way that everyone can understand. Seeing these students not only participate but lead in their groups has been an absolute joy.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has done more than just provide a tool; it has built confidence and fostered a more inclusive and energetic learning environment for every single student.
