Studies have shown that students can learn skills quicker when playing a game than when taught in isolation. The games in my project will help my students practice their skills with addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and telling time and help solidify their knowledge in a fun and engaging environment. I have also chosen games will help my students practice phonics skills which will make them better readers.
Covid-19 has had a negative impact on my students' math and reading skills. They didn't complete their first grade year due to the soft-closure, and then second and third grades have been full of disrupted learning due to quarantines. This has affected their social-emotional well-being as well, and they would greatly benefit from a sensory area in my classroom. The items I've chosen in my project will help relieve stress and anxiety so that my students are able to learn. I've also selected items to be used as incentives to motivate my reluctant learners, so that everyone is engaged in their learning. Educational games and sensory items will help my students overcome the obstacles Covid-19 has created.
