Children deserve to practice who they will become in a low-risk environment. This is accomplished when they feel safe and secure in the world around them. I have been observing my class and the common things I am seeing is students sitting in the library to work, on the rug, and constantly moving their bodies when they are in their seats. I have slowing introduced flexible seating options of standing desks, floor desks, and rocking chairs, but I would love to give more students options for flexible seating more often throughout the day. Flexible seating allows children to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases the oxygen flow to the brain and enhances core strength. The seating burns more calories and increases metabolism keeping young minds alert and focused. Children love having options to choose from. Choices empower a child to take control of their own learning. This enhances confidence and accountability which will last a lifetime.
