They couldn't believe that plants could grow without soil. Right away, they started exploring how the system worked—checking the water and carefully placing the seeds. Each day, students were able to see how tall the plants were growing. Seeing the roots grow in the clear water has made our lessons about plant life cycles come to life right before their eyes!\r\n\r\nOur next step is to try growing different kinds of plants, like flowers and strawberries. The class is even planning to share what they learn with other grades. They have made such an impact in our classroom. The breathing ball and emotion jars have been a great addition to our calm-down corner. Students can choose to use those as needed to practice the regulation skills we have worked on. One morning in particular, a student, who is a military child, was having a hard time with separation from her deployed parent and chose to go use those tools in the morning before she was ready to join the class for the day.\r\n\r\nStudents have LOVED the opportunity to use the watercolors. We recently used them again to do art that went with our Aquarium visit and my class is happiest when they are painting! I love it! There's such a happy, calm vibe when they use watercolors.\r\n\r\nThe book, \"My Mouth is a Volcano\" has become a good reference point for when students blurt out and we try to remember to use our skills to keep our volcanoes from erupting at the wrong times. We also enjoyed \"What if Everybody Did That?\" as we discuss the importance of following rules and showing respect to our supplies.\r\n\r\nThe golf pencils have been really important for some anxious kiddos who tend to chew the metal off the pencil in a way that makes it sharp and dangerous. They appreciate the security of having a pencil readily available and I appreciate that they are safe and help with grip. Speaking of pencil grips, the students love using the magic pen handwriting books during our center time. They get to use which one they want to work on, and even those who don't need the handwriting practice can get skills practice with spelling and math skills, so no one feels singled out!\r\n\r\nAt our first snow, we will get to use the clay to build snowmen to go along with our literature. Students are also anticipating when the weather turns warm so we can use our butterfly kit and potting jars for our science plant unit! Having things to look forward to is important for mental health as well!\r\n\r\nSometimes it is the little things- having wipes to clean off germy spaces, having magnetic hooks so they always know where the bathroom pass is, having a dry-erase marker to practice skills (way more exciting for first graders), etc.- that make the classroom feel safe and comfortable. Thank you for making that happen for these special kids.","fullyFundedDate":1755702104127,"projectUrl":"project/regulated-and-ready-to-learn-gifted-mag/9578766/","projectTitle":"Regulated and Ready to Learn (Gifted Magnet)","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Maloney","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8105641"},{"teacherId":6872430,"projectId":9268423,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating to our classroom library.
