They will also be able to have discussions about the various differences in socioeconomic backgrounds and how this can impact a person's living situation.\r\n\r\nMy students rarely get a book they can call their own. By funding ninety books, each student will be able to have a book that is theirs which means they will be free to annotate and add marginalia.\r\n\r\nThank you for making future readers. The \"Take What You Need\" drawers are fully stocked and have become a quiet lifeline for so many of our teens.\r\n\r\nHow Students Are Using These Resources\r\n\r\nEvery day, students discreetly visit the library to access deodorant, feminine hygiene products, soap, toothbrushes, and other personal care items—no questions asked, no charge, no embarrassment. Just last week, a junior came in looking anxious before a college interview scheduled for later that day. She quietly approached the drawer, grabbed deodorant and a comb, and left with noticeably more confidence. That small moment of dignity could have changed the trajectory of her future.\r\n\r\nUnlike visiting the nurse's office where students are often charged for supplies or must explain their need, our library offers a private, shame-free solution. For students from lower-income families—which describes most of our school population—this removes a significant barrier to their success and wellbeing.\r\n\r\nStudent Reactions\r\n\r\nWhen students first discovered the stocked drawers, the response was overwhelmingly grateful, though often quiet. Many expressed relief through small gestures—a smile, a whispered \"thank you,\" or simply the visible relaxation in their shoulders. Several students have told me they no longer worry about whether they can afford these basics, which means they can focus their energy where it belongs: on their education and their dreams.\r\n\r\nWhat's Next\r\n\r\nAs word spreads about this resource, we're seeing increased usage, which tells us it's meeting a real need. Moving forward, we're monitoring which items are most needed so we can keep the drawers consistently stocked. We're also working to ensure students know this is a permanent resource they can count on—not just this year, but throughout their high school journey.\r\n\r\nYour donation didn't just fill drawers with supplies; you gave our students dignity, confidence, and the message that their community believes they deserve to focus on learning without worrying about basic needs. Having these mobile whiteboards allows me to offer my students passive programming throughout the day. \r\n\r\nThe small one has been used to announce events and also to allow students to play What Would You Rather. This was popular during library orientation the last few weeks. If you look at the picture - it is clear that our students would rather direct a movie than write a book. \r\n\r\nThe larger one now has a Fall Word Search on one side and a Sudoku board on the other. The Sudoku seems to be the most popular so far.
