Your kindness has made an incredible difference in the lives of my students and in my ability to teach effectively throughout the school year. Working in a Title I district comes with many challenges—limited funding, tight budgets, and restrictions that often make it difficult to provide students with the creative, hands-on experiences they deserve. Your donation, however, has helped bridge that gap. It has turned obstacles into opportunities and made learning a joyful and engaging experience for every student who walks into our classroom.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, we were able to begin the year fully equipped with the tools necessary to learn, create, and grow. The pencils, markers, notebooks, and art supplies you provided have supported countless lessons and projects. For example, during Hispanic Heritage Month, my students were able to design vibrant displays and presentations celebrating cultural pride and diversity. Their projects highlighted family traditions, foods, music, and the leaders who inspire them. Without your donation, we would not have had the materials needed to bring these ideas to life. Seeing my students beam with pride as they shared their work reminded me that access to supplies does more than support academics—it fuels confidence and self-expression.\r\n\r\nYour contribution also helped us host one of our students' favorite activities of the year—Cupcake Holiday Wars! This fun, creative baking and decorating competition allowed my students to apply culinary techniques, teamwork, and presentation skills in a festive way. Thanks to your donation of basic classroom materials, we could focus on creativity and collaboration instead of worrying about shortages. The students worked together to plan, design, and execute their cupcake displays, learning not just about baking, but about leadership, problem-solving, and time management. The excitement and pride they felt during this event would not have been possible without your generosity.\r\n\r\nBeyond specific projects, your donation impacts our classroom every single day. It ensures that every student—regardless of their background—has the same opportunity to succeed. When students have the tools they need, they feel valued and capable. For many of my students, these supplies are more than paper and pencils; they are symbols of hope and encouragement. Your kindness tells them that their education matters and that people in their community believe in their potential.\r\n\r\n\r\nThank you, from the bottom of my heart, for making dreams come true for our students and helping me provide the creative, engaging, and equitable classroom experience they deserve.","fullyFundedDate":1755910823466,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-learning-for-hungry-young-mind/9391288/","projectTitle":"“Hands-On Learning for Hungry Young Minds”","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ewing","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7820203_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1717609686324","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/tareell-ewing"},{"teacherId":7820203,"projectId":9515079,"letterContent":"Many of our donors love to read and in our classroom, we do too! However, our love of reading takes a unique and delicious form through cookbooks. These books are more than collections of recipes they're dynamic teaching tools that bring reading, math, science, and culture to life. In my culinary classroom, cookbooks help students see the connection between literacy and real-world skills. Every recipe becomes a lesson in comprehension, sequencing, vocabulary, and creativity. Students learn that reading is not only about stories it's also about understanding, communicating, and creating.\r\n\r\nCookbooks have opened up a new world of literacy for my students. As we explore different recipes, students are practicing a variety of skills that go far beyond the kitchen. They analyze ingredient lists to learn about measurements, conversions, and the proportions of ingredients. They follow step-by-step directions, strengthening their ability to interpret procedural texts a key component of reading comprehension. They also make inferences as they predict outcomes, identify cause and effect, and discuss what might happen if an ingredient is substituted or a step is skipped. These are critical thinking skills that transfer across all academic subjects.\r\n\r\nIn my classroom, reading looks active, engaging, and collaborative. You might find students in small groups, flipping through cookbooks and comparing recipes for something as simple as chocolate chip cookies or as complex as gumbo. They highlight unfamiliar terms, define culinary vocabulary, and discuss the science behind ingredientswhy baking powder makes dough rise, or how acids in lemon juice can tenderize meat. We often turn reading into an interactive experience: students take turns reading recipes aloud, and others act as \"kitchen translators,\" explaining what each instruction means in their own words. This not only builds comprehension but also confidence and teamwork.\r\n\r\nCookbooks have also introduced my students to cultures and cuisines from around the world. Through recipes, they learn geography, history, and diversity. When reading a traditional Mexican tamale recipe or a Southern-style cornbread recipe, we talk about the origins of the dish and the cultural meaning behind it. Students are fascinated to see how food tells a story—how families, communities, and even nations preserve their heritage through recipes. Some students have even brought in family cookbooks to share, proudly introducing their classmates to recipes passed down through generations. These moments transform reading into connection—between students, families, and cultures.\r\n\r\nOne of the most powerful outcomes I've witnessed is how cookbooks have motivated reluctant readers. Many of my students come to class believing they don't enjoy reading, often because traditional texts haven't felt relevant to their lives. But when they realize that reading can help them make something tangible a meal they can taste, share, and take pride in their entire attitude changes. I've seen students who once struggled to focus during reading time eagerly follow multi-step recipes, double-check ingredient quantities, and discuss what they might change next time. The joy on their faces when a recipe turns out perfectly is the best kind of reading comprehension test there is.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generous support, our classroom library now includes a growing collection of diverse cookbooks that meet students where they are. We have beginner-friendly titles for those just starting their culinary journey and advanced texts that introduce techniques like plating, flavor pairing, and regional cooking. Each new book adds excitement, variety, and authenticity to our lessons. Students love choosing recipes, testing them, and reflecting on what they've learned not just about cooking, but about reading, problem-solving, and perseverance.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in the power of books and for helping us show students that literacy can be delicious. Every cookbook we receive becomes a doorway to learning, curiosity, and confidence. Together, we're not only feeding young minds but also nurturing lifelong readers, thinkers, and creators one recipe at a time","fullyFundedDate":1754080154785,"projectUrl":"project/write-read-cook-lead-empowering-futu/9515079/","projectTitle":"Write, Read, Cook, Lead: Empowering Future Chefs & Scholars","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ewing","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7820203_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1717609686324","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/tareell-ewing"},{"teacherId":3719803,"projectId":9298038,"letterContent":"Your support has the power to directly improve the daily experience of our students by meeting two of their most essential needs: a clean, healthy learning environment and the freedom to explore their creativity.\r\n\r\nMaintaining cleanliness and hygiene is more important than ever, helping us safeguard the well-being of our students and staff.
