These books will be used as part of a year long student choice reading project. Every 6 weeks, students will be able to choose one book from a set, thematic list to read outside of class. The themes include determining identity, the scope of feminism, friendship and sacrifice, and pride. Students will analyze these themes within the text. Most of our students do not have the means to purchase these books on their own and our library only has a few copies -- this would not be a true CHOICE project if students did not truly have access to the books they want to read. I want to ensure that my library is stocked with culturally diverse, engaging texts that help to create a more equitable classroom.
