When I get new books for the library, I love to do a \"tasting\" of the new books so students can see what's new and what interests them. Students will read at least five books to participate in our reading challenge. My students are so excited to have this opportunity to participate in our state's program. Students learn to find titles they enjoy, write about their reading, and rate each book. This allows them to analyze their reading to decide which book will gain their vote for the year. \r\n\r\nReading for pleasure is something students aren't always encouraged to do at school. Your support has made a tangible difference in enriching our learning environment and providing our students with unique and engaging experiences. Thanks to your generosity, we've been able to acquire essential resources that have not only enhanced our curriculum but also fostered a sense of responsibility and ownership among our students. They have truly embraced the opportunity to care for our new supplies, demonstrating a remarkable level of maturity and respect. This sense of ownership has extended beyond simply maintaining the materials to actively participating in the learning process, creating a more positive and productive classroom atmosphere.\r\n\r\nSpecifically, your donation has allowed us to introduce our students to the fascinating world of indoor hydroponic gardening. This hands-on experience has provided them with practical knowledge of plant biology, sustainable agriculture, and the importance of environmental stewardship. The utility cart and storage cabinet you helped us acquire have proven to be incredibly useful for the safe storage and easy transportation of our materials, especially for the hydroponic gardening supplies. These additions have streamlined our classroom organization and enabled us to maximize our learning time. We are so thankful for your partnership in making these enriching experiences possible for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1728407134720,"projectUrl":"project/we-are-scientists/8463107/","projectTitle":"We are SCIENTISTS","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Moody’s Scientists and Historians","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3829432_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1568466652228","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3829432"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_24459","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":625,"numTeachers":44,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":19,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":73,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":85.0,"schoolId":24459,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Harvey S Brown Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Harvey S Brown Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/channelview-independent-school-district/harvey-s-brown-elementary-school/24459"}
