The carts, in particular, that I received from your donations have earned allot of attention! Everyone who walks into my room comments on how wonderful they look and asks me where I got them. Of course, I proudly say that they were donated to me by generous donors through Donor's Choose. \r\n\r\nThese sturdy carts have been a life saver for my students and I as we start learning in 3rd grade about the writing process and continue learning reading strategies for comprehension. You may know that third grade is a pivotal year for reading and writing. Students learn to read and write in earlier years, of course, but in third grade, we make sure that they comprehend what they read and learn the process of writing- including revision and editing. \r\n\r\nAs we are learning these things, students can get supplies from their table carts. They may need colored pencils or markers for self or peer revision and editing. They may need their reader in English or in Spanish. Each of my four table groups has a rolling cart (plus one for the teacher). We have a drawer for writing supplies, one for \"other\" supplies, one for paper, one for writing books, two for reading books. Readers are kept on the top shelf of the cart for easy access- and we still have room to grow. Before students are called to the carpet for a lesson, they are told what they need so that they can grab it quickly and be ready for class. Supplies are easily accessable and readily available for everyone to be prepared. This way, we maximize our time for learning!\r\n\r\nThe plastic folders are used to separate and store composition books and work in each student's AVID binder. We have 2-4 plastic folders in a binder depending on how many subjects students have with me. Each folder is for storing a different subject's work. This helps me as a teacher and the students be organized and ready to teach and learn. Your generosity has made a meaningful impact on my students' learning.\r\n\r\nWe have been using the new resources daily during math centers and small group instruction. The fraction strips have been especially helpful as students used them to find equivalent fractions by lining them up and comparing sizes. They were truly playing and learning at the same time. The other materials have also strengthened our centers, keeping students engaged and actively practicing key skills.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, they were so excited and couldn't wait to use them. Their enthusiasm carried into their learning, and I've already seen improvement, especially in their test scores.\r\n\r\nNext, we will continue using these tools to solve multi-step problems and explain our thinking more clearly.
