The students also love being able to practice spelling their high frequency words and simple words that I tap out for them.\r\n\r\nThe interactive whiteboard has even been useful for rainy days. During inside recess, the students are able to use the whiteboard function to draw. We are able to watch and do kids yoga videos when we can't go outside and play.\r\n\r\nJust this week, I was able to use the interactive screen to walk the students through step by step how to log on to their Chromebooks by themselves. The students are able to come up to the screen and practice logging on and clicking on the correct links to find the website where they can practice their phonemic awareness and math skills. \r\n\r\nThank you for making learning more fun and attainable for my students! The flexible seating, desk caddies, and organizational tools you funded have turned our classroom into a dynamic, student-centered environment where movement, collaboration, and focus all thrive together.\r\n\r\nWe've been using the new resources during our Ancient Civilizations projects, where students research, design, and present how geography shaped early societies. With flexible seating, students can move around the room comfortably — brainstorming on yoga balls, collaborating in small groups on floor cushions, or spreading out to focus independently. The energy and engagement have been incredible.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments came during our Athens vs. Sparta simulation. Students rearranged the new seating to represent the two city-states — \"Athens\" on one side of the room, \"Sparta\" on the other — and dove into their roles with excitement. They were debating, problem-solving, and laughing together, and one student even said, \"This feels like learning for real.\"\r\n\r\nWhen my students first walked in after the new materials arrived, their faces lit up. There was a buzz of excitement as they explored the new setup and immediately began claiming their favorite spaces to work. One student whispered, \"It finally feels like a classroom made for us.\"\r\n\r\nRight now, we're using the flexible setup for our Greek Achievements Gallery Walk, where students rotate through stations on philosophy, architecture, and the Olympics. The new furniture and supplies make these transitions smoother, and students are more engaged than ever.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be applying these same skills and tools in our Roman Empire project, where students will design \"campaign posters\" for Julius Caesar and Augustus. Because of your support, my students can focus on creativity, collaboration, and deep learning instead of worrying about distractions or space limitations.\r\n\r\nYour donation didn't just fund materials — it built confidence, curiosity, and community. You helped create a classroom where students love to learn, move, and grow. From phonics games that bring joy to our early readers, to vocabulary and comprehension tools that challenge our advanced learners, these resources are helping to personalize learning and make literacy instruction more engaging for everyone.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped make our classroom a place where all students—regardless of where they start—can thrive as readers. Instead of traditional static seating, students now have flexible, active seating that allows movement while learning. During our recent math geometry unit, students used the wobble stools to create an incredibly engaging collaborative learning environment.\r\nDuring a complex polygon construction lesson, students could subtly move, rock, and adjust their positioning while working on intricate geometric designs. The ability to move naturally helped students stay focused and reduced fidgeting. One student, Jake, mentioned that he could concentrate much better because he wasn't forced to sit completely still.\r\n\r\nStudents' Initial Reactions\r\nWhen the wobble stools first arrived, the classroom erupted with excitement! Students were amazed by the unique design - colorful, modern, and completely different from traditional chairs. Their first reactions ranged from giggles of excitement to curious experimental movements, testing how far they could gently rock without losing balance. Eight-year-old Maria exclaimed, \"It's like sitting on a tiny exercise ball, but for school!\" The pure joy and enthusiasm were palpable as students explored their new seating options.\r\n\r\nNext Steps and Learning Opportunities\r\nOur upcoming project will integrate the wobble stools into a cross-curricular STEM challenge. Students will: Design experiments testing balance and movement Explore physics concepts through seated interactions Create presentations about how flexible seating impacts learning Track their own focus and engagement levels\r\n\r\nThe Broader Impact\r\nThese wobble stools have done more than provide seating - they've: Improved student engagement, reduced physical restlessness, enhanced learning environment, supported different learning styles and increased student comfort and participation.","fullyFundedDate":1730817441333,"projectUrl":"project/picture-this-wobbling-focused-2nd-grad/8908333/","projectTitle":"Picture This: Wobbling, Focused 2nd Graders!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bankert","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4899382"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_105499","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":520,"numTeachers":40,"percentFrplEligible":34,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":12,"percentWhite":78,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":67.3,"schoolId":105499,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lowcountry Leadership Charter School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lowcountry Leadership Charter School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/south-carolina/south-carolina-department-of-education/lowcountry-leadership-charter-school/105499"}
