My students are able to get breakfast on half days and provided healthy and filling snacks when they came to school hungry or were still hungry after they ate breakfast or lunch. My students and I no longer have to worry about food and can focus more on learning. This has created a safe and comfortable climate in my classroom for other students in other grades as well. The cups and straws also provided an added need for kids who forgot their water bottles at home due to the school having refillable water stations and no longer water fountains. \r\n\r\nIn addition to the healthy snacks and cups, the recess materials was an incredible addition to indoor recess during the cold months. They were able to play with each other, be creative, and not just watch a movie during that time. It has also contributed to improved behavior and emotional regulation, as students feel more secure and cared for in an environment where their well-being is prioritized.\r\n\r\nIn addition to food support, I was able to provide each student with a stuffed animal, as well as hats, gloves, and scarves during the winter months. These items have brought a sense of comfort, stability, and belonging to my classroom. Once students were nominated by their writing teacher, I put together a gift bag that consisted of, pencils, a book, pencil sharpeners, stickers, a mini squish, liquid motion bubbler and a mini notepad. \r\n\r\nI was so happy to see new scholar faces to receive their certificate and prize. It was good to see some students who usually struggle with writing more confident and engaged. Many of our scholars were eager to look inside their prize bag to see what they had earned. With the funding, I was able to restock our school's Dean's Office with snacks and fidget tools. The main attraction, however, was the the mini couch that we received. This couch, along with the fidgets and snacks, helped create a more restorative and nurturing environment for all our students! \r\n\r\nWe've had a younger student who is typically a ray of sunshine, but who's been running into some behavioral issues recently. One of the patterns we've been falling into, is him thinking he's in trouble when he's not, and then spiraling into a tantrum. Our main strategy to combat this is to try and reach him before he spirals through jokes and a comforting environment. The couch and fidgets have been an excellent resource for this.\r\n\r\nWe just recently rearranged the furniture, to separate the \"in-school\" portion of the Dean's office from the space people go to take a break. We are still transforming the room to make that goal, with the couch being the centerpiece.
