This project was made to get books before last year ended, but was funded over the summer. This was still fantastic since the student came with even more great titles added for them to start new stories and continue with new volumes of excellent series.\r\n\r\nReading is a HUGE part of my classroom, knowing the importance of literacy and how students read more when reading books that have themes that interest them. Also, with my diverse class, having lots of books where the main character that reflects their looks, beliefs and interests.\r\n\r\nI have some pictures taken that have many of my students reading. Many of the books are ones that came from this project, but many are reading books from previous projects also funded by many of you. The magnetic sentence strips have been especially helpful in providing a visual for students as they practice using their weekly sight words in sentences.\r\n\r\nThe students were so excited to use the watercolor paper and create wonderful pictures. I received 30 of them for my first-grade classroom, and they have quickly become an important part of our daily routine. The pockets are large enough for students to store most of the materials they need throughout the school day. The seat storage sacks are a beautiful, bright blue color that adds a cheerful touch to our classroom while also creating a calm and organized environment.\r\n\r\nI use the seat storage sacks to hold writing folders, math folders, and whiteboards. Having these materials at students' seats means they do not have to get up as often or make frequent trips to their cubbies to get the supplies they need. I feel this has helped reduce classroom disruptions and allows students to be ready more quickly when transitioning from one task to another.\r\n\r\nAnother feature I really appreciate is that each seat storage sack has the student's name on the back. This makes it easy for adults in the classroom to see who sits in each chair and whose belongings are stored inside. It also helps students take ownership of their materials and stay organized.\r\n\r\nMy students take great pride in their classroom and the items they use every day. I teach them to take care of our classroom materials, including their seat storage sacks, so they stay clean and useful. The students understand that taking care of their supplies is an important part of being responsible classroom members.\r\n\r\nI also appreciate that I can use these seat storage sacks from year to year. I clean them thoroughly in June so they are ready for the next school year. With proper care and maintenance, they usually last two to three years. This makes them a practical and reusable resource for my classroom. We have a lot of young readers ready to start more complex chapter books and series. I set these out earlier last week, and the students were eager to get reading them from day 1. It has been a very welcome enhancement to our existing library!\r\n\r\nSo far, the leading choice has been the My Weird School series. This may not be the highest level in the collection, but the amount of book talks this has sprouted already is exciting! The students have been comparing the first few entries, finding patterns in the series, talking about realistic versus fictional, and just having endless laughs at the, well, weirdness of it all. \r\n\r\nThe WhoHQ and Diary of a Wimpy Kid have been the next most popular series - in particular the one about George Lucas. Many didn't know he created Star Wars, and the faces they made realizing it was hilarious all on it's own! There were about 25 great new books, mostly graphic novels, but also mostly for our school library. There were a few materials for me to continue to give the best materials and resources when I can. I also had a few packs of small prizes for our reward bin. This is a great motivator for those who need it.\r\n\r\nEvery project has been a blessing to us, and this was no different. Great books, materials, and rewards have continued my ability to have a great classroom library, student materials, and the best class at our school!
