The 3d printer has brought a feel of excitement to the classroom, as students hurry to get to class each day just to see what might be printing. Several students have asked about printing their own projects, discussed what would be involved and are currently researching to find models to bring in to print. They are learning how to use new software, download and up load files to flash drives as well as learning how a 3d printer works. Most of all we are taking the fear out of trying new things.\r\n\r\nOur academic team is the talk of the district as they take their recently printed name plates to each of their competitions. Most teams have name plates made out of folded cardstock, but not ours....Our team takes their two color printed name plates and displays them proudly. The name plates were a simple exploration into the world of creating our own 3d images. We have also created a college baseball \"name plate\" to be displayed at the signing of one of our seniors.\r\n\r\nOther projects involve gifts for girlfriends, birthday gifts for friends, miniature creatures for used to hide in offices for coworkers to find, and logos for displaying team spirit. All of these have been for \"fun\" and to spark interest in students. Later this spring we will use the machine to create three dimensional figures in Calculus in order to calculate volume of solids with known cross sections.","fullyFundedDate":1755740948892,"projectUrl":"project/deep-dive-in-3d/9479648/","projectTitle":"Deep Dive in 3D","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Barker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2122614_orig.jpg?crop=2004,2004,x0,y334&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1692306055583","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2122614"},{"teacherId":10084141,"projectId":9570611,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, our class has been able to dive into Lord of the Flies with brand-new, beautiful copies—and my students couldn't be more excited. The old, worn-out versions made it hard to build energy around the book, but these new editions—with their rough-cut pages, fun endpapers, and built-in bookmark flaps—immediately caught their attention. Even before we began reading, students were flipping through the design features, commenting on how \"cool\" these books looked, and feeling like they had something special in their hands.\r\n\r\nWe've just finished the first chapter, and the students are already hooked. Many of them were thrilled to see the introduction written by Stephen King—an author they know from movies and pop culture—which made the novel feel instantly relevant and accessible. Reading is no longer just about deciphering words on the page; it's about celebrating the experience of a book as an object of beauty and meaning, while navigating the deeper themes of leadership, conflict, and human nature that Golding explores.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students this gift. With every page they turn, they are not only discovering a classic work of literature, but also developing a love of reading that starts with the simple joy of holding a book they're proud to call their own.","fullyFundedDate":1755720889036,"projectUrl":"project/fresh-novel-set-to-survive-the-island-an/9570611/","projectTitle":"Fresh Novel Set to Survive the Island and the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Burton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10084141_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754772949121","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-hkburton"},{"teacherId":10084141,"projectId":9570599,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, my students will soon be holding fresh copies of To Kill a Mockingbird in their hands—a novel that so many of them have heard about and are already eager to dive into. Before, we didn't have enough reliable texts for each student, and excitement can fizzle when resources are scarce. Now, with complete class sets, students will be able to experience this story together in full, annotating, reflecting, and discussing as a true community of readers.\r\n\r\nWe'll begin reading To Kill a Mockingbird at the start of second semester, and it's the perfect way to celebrate literature while navigating some of the most powerful themes in our curriculum: justice, empathy, and moral courage. Students will wrestle with questions of right and wrong, explore the historical context of the novel, and make connections to the challenges we still face today. This is a book that invites them to grow both as readers and as people, and the fresh copies you provided ensure they can engage deeply with its timeless message.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students not only the tools they need to learn, but also the chance to be inspired by a story that continues to shape conversations about fairness, kindness, and understanding. Before, we were limping along with books that were falling apart, patched together with tape, or missing pages altogether. Now, our shelves hold clean, crisp copies that my students can be proud to open. Having a reliable text in every hand makes such a difference—it communicates to students that their learning matters, and it creates a shared sense of excitement as we turn the same pages together.\r\n\r\nThough we haven't yet begun this unit, I am thrilled to launch The Pearl with my classes in December. We'll be studying the theme of greed—how it shapes choices, relationships, and entire communities—which feels especially relevant around the holiday season. These new copies will help us not only analyze Steinbeck's timeless story, but also celebrate the power of literature to spark reflection and navigate conversations about justice, humanity, and values in our world today.\r\n\r\nThank you for breathing new life into this text for us. When students step into my room, they are greeted by shelves that celebrate the joy of reading—bright displays, new spines to explore, and books that invite them to pause and wonder. These texts allow us to navigate deeper conversations, whether it's about symbolism in literature, real-world justice themes, or the way a single story can shift our perspective. With each new title, students are not just reading—they are learning to analyze, question, and connect, developing skills that will serve them far beyond my classroom.\r\n\r\nReading here looks vibrant and alive. Students browse the display for their next \"mirror\" or \"window\" book, curl up in corners with their independent reads, and eagerly swap recommendations with friends. Our library fuels choice and ownership, which makes comprehension strategies—like note-catchers, theme trackers, and discussion prompts—more meaningful. I've noticed a few students, who once hesitated to pick up a book, now racing to the shelf as soon as they finish an assignment. One student even declared that they had \"finally found a book that feels like me,\" which is exactly the kind of moment I hoped these shelves would create.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us build not just a library, but a community of readers.
