I have started to create flexible seating in my classroom so that my students have a choice on where they feel like they can learn best. I have found a few old tables and chairs at local Goodwills and Salvation Army. With this new seating option, my students will be able to work together with various partners, sit in a comfortable place, and feel safe and accepted in my classroom. My classroom needs a breath of fresh air after teaching in person throughout the entire pandemic. Our students never had a school shutdown and rolled with the punches at every bump in the road. Students need to feel like their education is important and have a fun classroom to do so.
We also need this new furniture because I have students who have different heights or weight and I don't want them to feel discriminated against. This furniture will be used when students are collaborating on our yearbook and actively working together. We also had to move students into our classrooms to eat lunch to try to socially distance them more. These futons will also serve as lunch sitting to the 20 students who eat lunch in my classroom every single day. I am looking forward to offering students different options for seating, promoting collaboration, connection, and learning with each another, rather than just sitting side by side eating lunch at their desks. Please help me help my students return to normal this school year!
Lastly, we have one set of shared Chromebooks for my students but I would love to have a class set of headphones for them so that they can engage in online lessons and tutorials.
