My students work hard every day to build new skills, and having materials that allow them to actively participate can make such a huge difference. Fresh, reliable whiteboards will give them a place to practice, make mistakes, erase, and try again without the fear of getting it wrong. Those opportunities to take risks and keep trying are such an important part of building both academic skills and confidence.\r\n\r\nThe text-to-speech pens will also give my students something incredibly valuable: independence. Instead of having to wait for an adult to read a word, direction, or piece of text for them, they can access the information they need and keep learning alongside their peers. These pens aren't taking the place of reading instruction—they're helping remove a barrier while my students continue working hard to become stronger readers. Having more of these tools available means more students can use them when and where they need them.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is giving my students more than whiteboards and reading pens. You are giving them opportunities to participate, practice, problem-solve, and experience success on their own. Every time a student confidently writes an answer, tries a challenging word again, or uses a tool independently instead of giving up, they are building skills that extend far beyond my classroom. We are using our new hands-on materials to make learning more engaging and meaningful for our students. One of our favorite activities has been using manipulatives and hands-on activities during academic lessons. Students are able to touch, explore, sort, build, and practice new skills instead of only learning through worksheets. These activities have helped our students stay engaged and feel successful while learning.\r\n\r\nOur students were so excited to see all of the new materials! They immediately wanted to explore and see what they could do with them. Their excitement made learning feel fun, and it was wonderful to see students who may normally struggle to stay engaged become excited to participate.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue using these resources across different subjects and skills. We will be practicing academic skills through hands-on activities, working together with classmates, and building independence as we learn. It has been wonderful to see students independently choose a sensory tool when they need a break or extra support.\r\n\r\nWe will continue using these resources during learning activities, center rotations, and throughout our daily routines. My students work incredibly hard every day, and having the right tools available at the right moment can make such a difference in their confidence and success. These student menus will give them a way to access the strategies, reminders, and visual supports they need without having to wait for an adult to step in. For students who sometimes struggle to find the words, remember a strategy, or know what to do next, having those supports right at their fingertips can be incredibly empowering.\r\n\r\nThe plastic menu covers and Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will allow me to create individualized resources that are meaningful to each student. Whether a student needs a phonics reminder, a writing prompt, a math strategy, or a visual for emotional regulation, I can build a menu that reflects their specific needs and helps them feel successful. I especially love that these resources can grow and change with my students as they learn new skills, making them useful again and again throughout the school year.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, your generosity is helping my students become more independent learners. Instead of immediately needing to ask for help, they can flip through their menu, find a strategy, and give it a try on their own. That little bit of independence can turn \"I can't\" into \"I know what to do!\" Thank you for believing in my students, celebrating their potential, and helping me provide them with tools that remind them they are capable, resourceful, and worthy of every opportunity to succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1746785290104,"projectUrl":"project/menus-for-the-mind-visual-supports-at-t/9322360/","projectTitle":"Menus for the Mind: Visual Supports at Their Fingertips","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Upchurch","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7315170_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1715117165650","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/upchurch-k"},{"teacherId":7315170,"projectId":9322239,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my classroom and my amazing students! As a special education teacher, I work with students who have a wide variety of needs and individualized goals. Throughout the day, my room becomes a place for small-group reading instruction, social-emotional support, and a safe space where students can take a break, cool down, and regroup when the general education classroom feels overwhelming.\r\n\r\nThese fidgets may seem like small tools, but they make a BIG difference for my students. From helping a fidgety learner focus during reading to giving a student something to manipulate while working through big emotions, these tools are used every single day. Many of our current fidgets have been very well-loved and are starting to show it! Having new, engaging options means my students can continue to use these tools to regulate their bodies, focus their attention, and feel successful at school.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is helping me create a classroom where students feel supported, understood, and equipped with the tools they need to learn.
