Eyes got wide, kids started cheering, and I heard, \"Wait... these are for us?\" over and over. As we opened everything, they immediately began naming games they wanted to try and (for the first time in a while) we didn't have to argue over who \"gets a turn\" because there were enough options to go around. It was one of those moments where you can feel the joy in the room — and it reminded me that for many of my students, these simple opportunities mean so much more than \"just toys.\"\r\n\r\nSince receiving the materials, we've been using them daily to build a more positive, inclusive recess routine. Students rotate through stations with basketballs, tetherballs, jump ropes, and other outdoor toys so everyone has something that fits their comfort level — team games, partner play, or independent movement. I've seen students who usually sit out join in because there's finally an activity that feels safe and fun for them. One of my favorite moments was watching a student who often struggles with peers offer to teach someone how to jump rope and then celebrate when they got their first successful jump. That kind of teamwork and encouragement is exactly what we're trying to build in our classroom \"family.\"\r\n\r\nThe next step for my students is to keep growing their leadership and problem-solving skills alongside our academic goals. We're tying recess into our classroom expectations by setting simple \"teamwork goals\" each week (like including someone new, using kind words during competition, or solving conflicts with rock-paper-scissors and a deep breath). As we head into upcoming lessons and projects, I'm already noticing that students return from recess more regulated, focused, and ready to learn — which helps us make the most of every minute in reading, writing, and math. Thank you for giving my students a healthier, happier recess and a stronger school day because of it.","fullyFundedDate":1770308942953,"projectUrl":"project/recess-reboot-outdoor-toys-that-build-t/10035331/","projectTitle":"Recess Reboot: Outdoor Toys That Build Teamwork","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bilodeau","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8258027_orig.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1660100944796","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8258027"},{"teacherId":8258027,"projectId":10035330,"letterContent":"Dear Donors,\r\n\r\nThank you for choosing to care about my students. Thank you for seeing a classroom full of kids you may never meet and deciding they are worth investing in. Your donation to our I Survived class set has done so much more than put books in our hands — it has put hope in my students' hearts.\r\n\r\nAt the beginning of the year, many of my kids didn't want to read. Some of them avoided it because reading felt embarrassing. Some shut down because it felt too hard. And some had already decided, at only nine and ten years old, that they just \"weren't readers.\" That is one of the heaviest things a teacher can hear — because I know how many doors reading opens, and how many dreams stay locked when a child believes they can't.\r\n\r\nBut because of you, something beautiful has changed.\r\n\r\nWhen we started the I Survived series, my students started leaning in. They started listening... then participating... then trying. And now? They are begging me to read. They ask for \"one more chapter\" with wide eyes and hopeful voices. They talk about the characters like they're real people. They make connections. They want to take the books home. For some of my students, this is the very first time they've ever wanted to read — not because they were told to, not because it was for a grade, but because the story made them believe reading could belong to them.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is changing how my students see themselves. It's building confidence. It's giving them something they can be proud of. It's helping them realize that their voice matters, their learning matters, and they are capable of more than they ever thought possible.\r\n\r\nI wish you could see their faces when we open the book. I wish you could hear the way they cheer when they realize we're reading that day. You would instantly understand why I'm so grateful — and why your donation means the world to us.\r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping my students become readers. You didn't just fund a project — you helped rewrite their story.\r\n\r\nWith love and gratitude,\r\nDessanie Bilodeau","fullyFundedDate":1768922410983,"projectUrl":"project/courage-conflict-and-comprehension-i/10035330/","projectTitle":"Courage, Conflict, and Comprehension: I Survived Set","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bilodeau","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8258027_orig.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1660100944796","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8258027"},{"teacherId":5358254,"projectId":10007440,"letterContent":"Your support has made math more fun and engaging for my students.
