The opportunity to observe chicks hatching has captured their curiosity and enthusiasm, creating a shared experience they eagerly anticipate. Even students who typically show little interest in reading are fully engaged—reading and discussing the book about how to hatch chicks because they are invested in the process and want to understand each step.\r\n\r\nThese donations have also helped students learn patience, responsibility, and timing as we wait for viable eggs, ideally in February when conditions are best for hatching. Students are learning that successful outcomes depend on planning and care, not just excitement. One of my high school students is especially enthusiastic, already talking about holding and caring for the chicks and joking that he will spoil them because he loves interacting with animals. This hands-on experience, made possible by donor support, is fostering both academic engagement and social-emotional growth in ways that will stay with students long after the chicks hatch.","fullyFundedDate":1761782482892,"projectUrl":"project/help-us-hatch-hope-in-the-classroom/9417285/","projectTitle":"Help Us Hatch Hope in the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Haun","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp357070_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1721254200221","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/lynn-haun"},{"teacherId":9634279,"projectId":9581938,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our classroom now has a dining room table and two papasan chairs that have completely transformed how students use our space. We are using this space for small-group discussions, peer collaboration, and quiet work time, especially during reading, writing, and project-based learning activities.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new furniture, their faces lit up with excitement. Many immediately asked when they could work at the table or sit in the papasan chairs, and several students shared that it made the classroom feel more like a place where they truly belong. Having flexible seating options has helped students feel more comfortable, confident, and focused throughout the day.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue using this space during ongoing lessons and projects that emphasize collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. Reading a short novel in a different language during the first semester might have seemed like a very ambitious goal. But with the support you provided, my novice learners have been able to get in touch with historic events and cultural practices that made the language classroom a community of learners. This time the story of a not-so popular kid in contemporary Mexico, uncovered legends of hidden treasures from the times of the Mecican Revolution and family celebrations with traditions that are otherwise widely misunderstood.
