When my students first saw the table, they were so excited to have a new space that felt different from their everyday desks. They immediately began asking when they could use it!\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments has been watching students naturally gather around the table to work on classroom activities and help one another. The table has created a welcoming space that encourages teamwork, communication, and connection. The students are truly excited when they come to class and can see differences in their plants each day, especially as they begin to flower and produce fruits. \r\nI cannot wait to continue the tradition next year and allow students the opportunity to learn more about growing food, but also be able to connect so many of the biology standards to their project. For example, the students were able to learn about sexual reproduction as some of their plants began to flower and grow. They could see in real time how photosynthesis works. When they forgot to water their plant and the leaves were wilting they could visualize osmosis in action. \r\nThis is one of my favorite projects and I think it is one that has been very beneficial to students and will continue to be into the future.","fullyFundedDate":1768409021471,"projectUrl":"project/photosynthesis-power/9901442/","projectTitle":"Photosynthesis Power","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Terrell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8575338_orig.jpg?crop=512,512,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746562955917","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-t-plants"},{"teacherId":8575338,"projectId":9625991,"letterContent":"These materials have been such a hit with my students. When they have downtime they are able to keep themselves entertained, or engage with other students allowing increased communication and collaboration within the classroom. The games and materials are readily available within the classroom which gives students the opportunity to learn how to play new games they may not have been exposed to before. In science, being able to read and comprehend instructions is an extremely important skill and playing games is a great way for them to practice that skill in a way that does not seem like work for them. \r\n\r\nOne of the best things about this project is that I can use these materials for years and years allowing the donation to reach hundreds of students over time. The students are becoming more and more comfortable using them and are actually becoming quite efficient using them. So often, the parents of Special Education students are so concerned about what their child will do after high school. What happens when that safety net of school is gone? How will they make a living? Having as many of these practical life skills is a vital ingredient to their life long success. \r\nThe impact of these folding boards is already transcending the classroom. I had a parent ask me in the pick-up line about why their daughter was taking such an interest in folding laundry and asked their mother \"Where is your blue board?\" The mother was so happy that these skills were being taught in the classroom and is ordering one for her daughter to have at home to help with choirs. \r\nSo many of the Special Education students nowadays have opportunities to work in the job force after high school. There is still a stigma that there is only the simplest of janitorial work for these students.
