Many of them gasped when they saw the realistic play food and the Melissa & Doug cleaning supplies set, and they immediately started sorting items, scanning pretend groceries, and taking turns as cashiers and shoppers. One memorable moment was watching a student who struggles with confidence proudly ring up items on the working cash register and announce totals using the Pretend Play money. The joy was unmistakable.\r\n\r\nThese materials have quickly become the center of our dramatic play station. Students are practicing early math skills like counting, identifying coin values, and even writing simple shopping lists. They collaborate naturally—negotiating roles, solving problems together, and learning language skills as they \"shop,\" \"clean,\" and \"restock\" their store. The Melissa & Doug food groups set has also helped us introduce conversations about nutrition and healthy eating in a hands-on, playful way.\r\n\r\nOur next steps include expanding this pretend-play grocery store into a full classroom project where students create their own mini business. They will design price tags, organize inventory, and continue to use the cash register to practice and reinforce addition and subtraction. Thanks to your generosity, my students now have a meaningful, imaginative environment where academic learning and social development happen naturally every day. My students love to read and being able to have books at their fingertips is so gratifying for me to help them continue to discover a love of reading, The authors write books that allow students to be transported to new places as they discover the path in the book through the eyes of the characters. \r\nMy students were incredibly surprised each day as the packages of new books were delivered to my classroom and they were clamoring to get each of the new books even before they had been checked in. Some of the books allowed students to understand the different genres such as mystery, realistic fiction, historical fiction and poetry. Through the exposure to many different writers and genres students are able to have a better understanding for author's purpose and how to make a story interesting and entertaining. Their love of reading is contagious and the impact in the classroom is valuable to allowing them more choices for books that they want to read. By having more books in our classroom library, it allows students to dig deeper with their favorite authors during dear time and overall reading fluency success. \r\nThe students have had the opportunity to go through a book tasting over two days the students were able to compare and contrast different genres and authors. It allowed them to discover new books and authors by having a taste of the various books they were able to share with their classmates what they found in the books and different authors. It allowed for the opportunity to dig deeper into the books and discover facts about the authors that the students could relate to and seeing the joy on their faces is what made this project so special. \r\nMy students love of reading will continue to grow through these books and the discovery of authors that they can enjoy reading to help themselves become the authors they want to be.","fullyFundedDate":1758822470154,"projectUrl":"project/books-a-plenty/9656813/","projectTitle":"Books a Plenty","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wilson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1860440"},{"teacherId":6422067,"projectId":9515190,"letterContent":"My students were absolutely thrilled to see our new supplies!
