It is a space where students build confidence, learn to communicate their wants and needs, develop social and academic language, practice skills that can be challenging, and discover that they are capable of making progress. Literacy and communication are so closely intertwined, and having high-quality, literacy-based materials allows me to address speech and language goals in a way that feels natural and relevant to students' everyday learning experiences. Rather than working on individual skills in isolation, these units allow students to practice vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, narrative language, articulation, phonological awareness, sequencing, inferencing, problem-solving, and expressive and receptive language skills through meaningful stories and activities. I am incredibly grateful for the generosity and confidence that went into funding this grant. The purpose of this project was to create and maintain a behavior and motivation \"Treasure Box\" system that could be used throughout speech-language therapy to encourage positive participation, reinforce communication goals, celebrate student successes, and help students develop the confidence they need to become successful communicators. For many of the students I serve, attending speech therapy can involve challenges that extend beyond the specific communication skill we are targeting. Some students struggle with attention, frustration, confidence, self-regulation, transitions, or simply finding the motivation to participate in a task that feels difficult. Having a well-stocked Treasure Box has given me an additional tool to help make therapy feel positive, exciting, and rewarding. The items purchased through this grant have allowed students to work toward tangible rewards while also learning important skills such as persistence, delayed gratification, making choices, following expectations, and taking pride in their accomplishments. Something as simple as allowing a student to choose a small prize after working hard can completely change the atmosphere of a therapy session. Students who may initially say, \"I can't do that,\" are often much more willing to try when they know their effort will be recognized and celebrated. The Treasure Box is not simply a collection of toys or prizes; it has become a tool for building relationships, encouraging perseverance, and creating positive associations with speech and language therapy.\r\n\r\nI cannot thank the donors enough for investing in our students and in the work that happens within our speech-language therapy classroom.
