My students are naturally curious about the world and the people who have shaped it, and these books have given them an engaging way to explore those interests.\r\n\r\nMany of our students are still building confidence as readers, so the format of these biographies has been a perfect fit. The short chapters, illustrations, timelines, and fun facts make the books approachable and help students experience success with nonfiction reading. Through these texts, students are learning how to identify important information, make connections between historical figures and current events, and build background knowledge that supports learning across subject areas.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite things to see is students discovering a person they have never heard of and then returning to check out additional biographies. Several reluctant readers have been especially drawn to the series because the books don't feel overwhelming. Students who rarely checked out nonfiction books before are now asking for recommendations about athletes, scientists, inventors, and influential leaders they can learn more about.\r\n\r\nReading in our library often looks like students curled up in a chair with a biography, sharing interesting facts with friends, or excitedly telling me about something new they learned. These books have sparked conversations, encouraged curiosity, and helped students see that history is filled with real people who faced challenges, persevered, and made a difference.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us add these wonderful resources to our library. Your generosity has provided our students with books that are not only strengthening literacy skills but also inspiring them to dream big and learn more about the world around them!","fullyFundedDate":1766071486635,"projectUrl":"project/help-us-unlock-history-with-the-who-was/9962395/","projectTitle":"Help Us Unlock History With the Who Was/Is Series","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Conklin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10386237_orig.png?crop=445,445,x138,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1765997526121","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10386237"},{"teacherId":8496993,"projectId":9432729,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for choosing my classroom and students to bless with your generous donation!
