Technology is a vital part of everyday learning in today's classrooms. At my school students are given iPads to use to complete their assignments. One of the greatest challenges with using technology is that student devices are often not charged and the students do not have their chargers. When this happens it is very difficult for students to stay on track with the work being done in class because they do not have access to their devices. However, thanks to the funding received for this project, this is no longer an issue in our classroom. Having a classroom set of chargers has helped to alleviate many of the issues that hold students back from being successful in the classroom. \r\n\r\nLikewise another issue that is common in my classrooms is that students need pencils, pens, and various other supplies. Not all of the students in my classroom are able to have these supplies provided and as a result they are dependent on teacher providing these. The donations of pencils and pens has been very helpful as I do not have to spend my own money on providing this for students. It is such a gift to be able to say \"yes\" when my students need something. The snacks have been the most asked for item when students miss breakfast at school. The students always say thank you and I am happy that they aren't hungry in class. \r\n\r\nAfter receiving the materials, I sent out an email to the students explaining that I received some supplies from the generosity of others and listed what I had available. In the following months, I have had a handful of boys come to me during my planning period to ask for deodorant. Recently, when I handed it to one boy who came to ask, he asked me \"does it cost anything?\" I simply told him no and I was so grateful to be able to say that! \r\n\r\nI am very grateful to the donors of this project for understanding that it truly is the seemingly simple things that make a difference. One box of 60 granola bars meant that I got to say yes 60 times when asked if I have snacks. Your donation brought a difficult concept, alcohol fermentation, to life for my students. My students were very excited to have an opportunity to observe this cellular process in action. I know that the lab experience reinforced the concepts that I taught in our cellular energy flow unit. \r\nThe reptile heat lamps were the perfect solution that allowed us to see the process in action and obtain definitive results within our 45 minute class periods, Before your generous contribution to my classroom, this lab was not as successful, because the yeast were not quick acting with the cooler temperatures in the room. Students would leave the experiment feeling underwhelmed because the plastic bags containing the reaction would not expand very much during class. This time around, we observed results relatively quickly with the addition of the heat lamps and stands. \r\nI noticed that my students were, better able to list the reactants and products of the alcohol fermentation chemical equation after performing this laboratory experiment. This is important, since they will take a state mandated end of course graduation test on this material. This lab also helped students make real world connections to our curriculum. Students took on character roles and read the play aloud each day, bringing the world of Verona to life. They loved choosing parts, experimenting with expression, and truly getting into character. Their enthusiasm was contagious—students arrived eager to participate and excited to continue the story.\r\n\r\nBecause they were so engaged, their comprehension and confidence grew tremendously. Students who were hesitant readers at the start of the unit became eager to analyze scenes, debate character motivations, and make connections to their own lives.\r\n\r\nThis project made all of that possible. The toothbrushes and shampoo were very popular - over a dozen students have already taken them home! One girl came up to me after class and thanked me for feminine hygiene products - she was worried about not being able to come to school if she didn't have them the next week. Luckily and with your help, we are helping students have supplies they need.\r\n\r\nStudents are working on reading, writing, speaking, and listening. This ultimately leads to lower reading comprehension abilitites, diminished vocabularly and more. \r\n\r\nHowever, research, and my own personal experience, has shown once a child starts reading for fun, they develop strong reading habits and start to counter act all of those things described above! \r\n\r\nThanks to you, my students have found excitement in reading as they see their favorite anime shows in novel form with these manga! Honestly, I've had students already finish all of the manga I've got, in just the first quarter of the school year! A few of our students from Palestine were so excited and eager to take home the books about a Palestinian girl that we needed to make a wait list. Watching them feel excited to read books they can meaningfully connect to is amazing.\r\n\r\nNow, we are continuing essay writing, and will soon start our Mythology unit. Students can supplement their readings in class with some of different texts you helped donate.
