The excitement extended beyond the classroom when my students asked our school librarian to order the complete Track Series. When Patina was checked out right away, students were thrilled to learn the series could be read out of order so they didn't have to wait. To top it off, we took the learning outside and held our own 100-meter sprint to see who was the fastest, bringing Ghost's story directly onto the track.\r\n\r\nIt is safe to say Ghost has been a total success, and these books will continue to inspire new readers in my classroom for years to come. The filing cabinets have made our lives so much better. Our room is decluttered and the materials are organized in the filing cabinets so we can easily find project materials and tools!\r\n\r\nThe filing cabinets were delivered unassembled and had the type of instructions that are difficult to interpret. Putting the filing cabinets together were a challenge for the students. It was a great learning opportunity. It allowed us to discuss the importance of clear and concise directions as well as making sure diagrams match instructions. It took us a lot longer to put them together than we expected. The challenge helped the students to appreciate the new furniture and the individuals who assemble items for others.\r\n\r\nThe locking filing cabinets allow us to protect special projects, expensive tools and even the filament for our 3D printer. This is important when our room is sometimes used by others.\r\n\r\nThe cabinets have also made our room more safe. The elimination of all of the paper boxes has reduced the tripping hazards and has made it easier for us to sweep and mop.\r\n\r\nThe filing cabinets are also aesthetically pleasing. They make our classroom more professional looking which makes all of us (students and teacher) more appreciative of our surroundings and our classroom.\r\n\r\nWe know that getting filing cabinets may not seem like an exciting grant request to fund. We assure you that the filing cabinets are an exciting addition to our learning environment. \r\n\r\nWe have two apprentice students in our program. They often teach lessons as part of the internship. Having this dedicated outdoor space gives students a simple way to take a quick break, clear their minds, and reset during busy school days.\r\n\r\nAs the semester gets underway, students will continue using this space to take breaks and recharge between their daily responsibilities. Looking ahead, our goal is to expand this area into a full \"Hammock Yard\" by adding six more hammocks for a total of 12. Doubling the seating will allow even more students across campus to make use of this space throughout the day. One especially meaningful moment was watching students who are typically hesitant to participate take leadership roles by explaining rules, encouraging peers and celebrating each other's successes at our local course. \r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the disc golf equipment, their excitement was immediate and genuine. Many students expressed surprise at the opportunity to play disc golf in English class. Several students, who struggle in a traditional classroom setting, were visibly more engaged and eager to participate. There was also a strong sense of pride and ownership as students realized this was something chosen specifically for them. The equipment helped lower anxiety levels, sparked conversation, and created a shared experience that brought students, who aren't in the same social circles, together in a positive way. \r\n\r\nIn the coming semesters and years, students will continue using the disc golf equipment during structured class activities and social-emotional learning moments. I see opportunities to use this equipment by incorporating reflective writing and journal activities along with instructional writing lessons connected to playing disc golf. Additionally, this would be a great tool to use with goal setting and self assessment related objectives.
