Your support turned an ordinary week into something unforgettable. On Cotton Candy Day, I may have briefly held the title of \"favorite teacher,\" though my colleagues were understandably less enthusiastic about receiving a parade of sugar-powered students afterward. Thankfully, peace was restored with a few well-timed bags of cotton candy for the staff.\r\n\r\nWhat began as a day quickly expanded into a full week of hands-on learning, giving every student in the school a chance to participate. Students discovered that cotton candy was once a luxury treat in the 1800s, reserved for those who could afford it, and that it wasn't until the Chicago World's Fair that it became more widely accessible. They were especially fascinated to learn that today's machines are still remarkably similar to the original design. We even have enough supplies left to bring the experience back at the end of the year, and we're aiming for a repeat performance without accidentally triggering the fire alarm this time.\r\n\r\nBubble Wrap Day brought its own kind of excitement. Students were surprised to learn that bubble wrap was originally invented in the 1960s as a 3D wallpaper...an idea that didn't quite stick. Thanks to IBM, it found its true calling as packing material. Of course, when you give bubble wrap to a classroom of 30 students, it quickly turns into a symphony of popping. At one point, the noise level even prompted a visit from our School Resource Officer, just to be sure everything was under control.\r\n\r\nIt was a joyful, engaging week filled with curiosity, laughter, and memorable learning moments. Thank you for helping create experiences that make our classroom a place students are excited to be. Each day, we will read a new story and focus on important skills such as understanding story elements, identifying the lesson or message, and engaging in meaningful discussions. These books help students build comprehension, vocabulary, and a love for reading.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is an interactive and joyful experience. We gather together during morning meetings and at the end of the day to listen to stories, share our thoughts, and make connections to our own lives. Students are encouraged to ask questions, discuss the characters, and reflect on what they have learned.\r\nSome of my students have already shared their excitement many love the firefly story because it lights up, and others are especially drawn to the tortoise because I love turtles!\r\n\r\nIn addition, books like Ohana Means Family, Fill a Bucket, and Sticks and Stones will support our social-emotional learning during reading carpet time. These stories help us build a classroom community centered on kindness, empathy, and understanding.\r\nMy students are especially excited because many of these books are hardcover and at their reading level, allowing them to enjoy them independently as well. \r\n\r\nThank you again for helping create a classroom where reading is meaningful, engaging, and fun.
