What may seem like a simple gift has already brought tremendous joy to both our students and staff. The excitement and smiles it brings have truly brightened our school community.\r\n\r\nBeyond the weekly tradition, your gift has also become a creative tool for encouraging positive behavior. I created \"Popcorn Passes\" -- small tickets distributed by administrators and counselors to reward students who go above and beyond. The chance to stop by for a bag of freshly popped popcorn has proven to be a great incentive, and the aroma drifting through the halls has become a cheerful reminder that Friday has arrived!!\r\n\r\nYour thoughtful contribution has not only provided a snack - it has created moments of connection, celebration, and joy that ripple throughout our school. The headphones and power cords have gone to great use. The children still have their challenges, but tech support is becoming less prominent. The use of remediation programs and computer technology is making a significant dent in low literacy. However, the overpowering idea the children experience through this donation system is that people--they don't even know-- care about them. This particular format lauds the love of society on young people who may not fully understand what it is that civilization should be about: promoting and prospering people.\r\n I am not the only loving influence upon my children, you are. If I can continue to support my students, they will prosper. If they prosper, they may learn to support other and thus improve the quality of the lives of many. One strong person at a time is how we develop the journey of many strong people standing tall (because of) and with each other.\r\n If nothing else, my students will be literate enough to express themselves assertively, clearly and thoughtfully.
