Through these books, students are learning how to identify story elements, make predictions, infer character feelings and motivations, build vocabulary, improve reading fluency, and deepen their comprehension. The diverse genres and topics also encourage critical thinking, meaningful discussions, and a love of reading.\r\n\r\nReading is an important part of our classroom culture. Students participate in whole-group read-alouds, partner reading, guided reading groups, and independent reading time. They have opportunities to discuss books with their classmates, respond to reading through writing and art, and make connections between texts and their own experiences. These new books have enriched our classroom library and given students exciting new choices that keep them engaged and motivated.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have been especially excited about the new books. Some reluctant readers are eagerly picking up books and asking for additional reading time because they have found topics and characters that interest them.
