My second grade class is a mix of both general education students and special education students, all from poverty level backgrounds. These students attend school in an urban setting where resources are limited and funding is scarce. Having games, activities and supplies in the classroom that are colorful, interactive and engaging is important. Daily student attendance improves when I can provide a fun learning environment. They have the desire to become better writers and work very hard at it! Most of the class reads well below grade level and I have many that will be working to master letters and sounds this year. I want to have a variety of differentiated tools that I can use with my new group of eager learners.
